Project ARM (Artificial Regenerative Mutation) is the name of the human modification project founded by Professor Vladimir that sought to create advanced modified humans by extensively researching both the Lineage Factor and devil fruit powers that were compatible enough with the research to be replicated without consuming the fruit itself.
After years of hardship and failures, Vladimir and his assistants were finally able to succeed in finding a devil fruit that could be used as the source of their research; the Paramecia-type devil fruit known as the Buki Buki no Mi. The result being that they have created a new species of modified humans who are capable of shapeshifting their bodies into different forms of solid matter and call these test subjects ARM Humans.

Decades ago, prior to the founding of the ARM project, a scientist hired by the Marines by the name of Professor Vladimir proposed to the World Government an idea to bolster their strength by utilizing one of Vegapunk’s brilliant discoveries; the Lineage Factor. Vladimir obsessed that by extensively researching the Lineage Factor alongside compatible devil fruits, it would be possible to create a brand of humans capable of replicating specific devil fruit abilities and would greatly increase the strength of the World Government by deploying them as a combat unit. When asked on what proof Vladimir could provide to show this, he referenced the Pacifista project created by Vegapunk who was able to install lasers into the human weapons based off of the power displayed by the Pika Pika no Mi.
Convinced, the World Government approved of Vladimir’s idea and gave him whatever funds and tools he required to bring his ambition to fruition. Thus, Project ARM was founded with Vladimir as the head researcher accompanied by other brilliant minds and they began obtaining as many devil fruits as they could purchase to begin testing at once. They used orphaned children with no relatives or significant ties as their research subjects and began testing various devil fruits, seeing which ones were compatible with the research they had done.
Sadly, it became apparent quite early on that this project would have severe roadblocks as no matter how many devil fruits they tried, none of them seemed capable of being replicated with humans. Frustrations began to grow within the research team as the World Government routinely asked for progress and results and Vladimir was unable to give them any good news. Had it not been for Vladimir’s incredible achievements when it came to his other projects and his overall value as a scientist, the World Government would have cancelled the project.
Years passed with no progress in sight and just when Vladimir was beginning to lose hope of realizing his ambition, a specific devil fruit came into his possession that was surprisingly compatible with his research and he immediately ordered everyone to drop everything else and focus on it. His hard work and labor was finally rewarded as they had struck gold and finally acquired a devil fruit they could replicate it within a modified human. Coincidentally, the name of the devil fruit they used matched perfectly with the name of their project and Vladimir merely chalked it up to fate.
It wasn’t long after that they had finally created the first ever ARMS human known as Alpha, who had been an orphaned human girl they found dying of starvation. She was the perfect test subject as she didn’t break from the torturous experiments and remained emotionless throughout the entire process. When presenting her to the World Government, she put on a spectacular display during a demonstration in which she even impressed several Vice Admirals.
Impressed and pleased, the World Government gave Vladimir their full support and wished to see more ARM humans and in response to that, Vladimir and his team have spent the last several years creating more ARM humans and wish to finally see their strength displayed as their own military unit.
Appearance[]
ARM humans retain the same physical features as normal human beings, just like Modified Humans and many would find it very difficult to differentiate between the two based on appearances alone. This is because the experimentation done on ARM humans has altered their D.N.A to the point that only specific body parts will change when utilizing the inborn power of shapeshifting, just like with humans who have consumed the Buki Buki no Mi.
The first ever ARM human, Alpha, retains the same appearance she had as a child even after being experimented on and possesses no physical defects. The only aspects of her being that have changed are her physical structure to be stronger and far more durable than regular humans and her eyes that seemed to have darkened a bit from their usual scarlet color. It's actually because ARM humans have identical appearances to human beings that have made them such a dangerous tool for the Marines and World Government as they can easily blend in with crowds or be used as spy's and no one would suspect a thing.
Unlike Pacifistas who are cyborgs that possess mechanical parts that replace living organs and muscles, ARM humans, like Modified Humans, are purely organic and do not possess any machine parts as they can be considered a new breed of humans.
