Alkali is an article written by Black Dwarf Star.

Alkali is a marine captain and the vice warden of Hellion Prison.

Appearance[]

Alkali is a young-looking, muscular man, with a light skin tone, dark eyes, and dark hair. His hair also has light streaks in the front. The left side of his face is marked by a massive scar, which goes from just under his eye, down his cheek, and down his neck. He wears primarily purple clothes, with a darker-colored middle section surrounded by light purple on the sides. He also wears dark-colored arm guards on his wrists, a magenta colored belt with gold-colored studs, a golden neckbrace-like necklace, and a pair of earrings.

Personality[]

Alkali displays a generally calm and formal demeanor. He seems to consider the staff and prisoners of Hellion Prison to be a family, calling the two pirates that Schmitty had captured a welcome addition to it before taking them all into the complex.[1] He also either cares about the infrastructure of Hellion Prison or is at least mindful of its budget, asking the Everything Pirates and Skink to surrender to prevent any potential escapes or damage to the prison.[2] Alkali's strange sense of family seems to be somewhat twisted, if he isn't somewhat sociopathic. He almost seems to think of everything in terms of a family, even clinging to the idea of Arukana wanting to play a game after he said that word and attempting to make their fight fun for him by creating suits of armor that mimicked Arukana's Apeiron Suit in appearance, as well as changing tactics when it didn't seem that Arukana was enjoying himself.[3]

Abilities and Powers[]

As a captain of the marines, Alkali has authority over all lower-ranking marines. As the vice-warden of Hellion Prison, Alkali also has authority over all personnel within the prison, excluding the warden, ZZ. It has been stated that all Hellion Prison staff members are incredibly powerful, to prevent the rookies from developing strength by fighting stronger opponents by knocking them out quickly, so it is likely that Alkali is incredibly powerful as the second-in-command of the prison.

Devil Fruit[]

Further information: Kacha Kacha no Mi

Alkali ate the Kacha Kacha no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gives him the ability to merge with and manipulate metal. Within the iron make-up of Hellion Prison, this allows him to quickly travel around the complex.[1] Alkali can also shape the metal he assimilates with into a variety of different shapes. While ordinarily he makes sheets or spikes, as well as opening up hole in the ground where large portions of metal reside, he can also make more complex materials, such as suits of armor, even making them to perfectly mimic the designs of complex armors. He appears to be able to merge with any kind of metal, as he switched from the steel makeup of Hellion Prison's walls into the armor that comprised of Arukana's Apeiron Suit (although the Seastone inside prevented him from maintaining control and he needed to leave). Whatever state the metal he's manipulating doesn't particularly seem to matter, as he was able to merge back together a few damaged suits of armor he created without issue and transform metal into a fluidic state to coat Arukana's armor and even create a massive wave. However, while Alkali's speed at transferring into different metals is incredibly fast, almost instantaneous, if he is caught off guard when the metal he's within is attacked, he will be injured.[2][3]

History[]

World Rend Saga[]

Hellions[]

After Schmitty brought Belle Aimee and Skink to Hellion Prison following their capture, Alkali opened the prison's massive gate to allow them entrance, as well as greeting them. He thanks Schmitty for his work, taking him inside the complex and saying that the warden would be rewarding him for his efforts.[1]

Alkali soon took Schmitty to ZZ, opening the door to her office for him and disappearing by merging with the metal floor.[1]

After Skink escaped her cell and the Everything Pirates performed an incursion on the prison, Alkali informed ZZ of the situation going on, much to her annoyance. She deployed him, alongside Edward Jacob, to quell the prisoners, diligently headed off to do so. He was later called by ZZ to inform him of the identities of the pirates in the prison as well as receiving orders on who to focus on.[4]

Jacob was the first one to arrive to attempt to stop the pirates, but was soon about to be struck by a powerful blow from Arukana. His attack was intercepted by Alkali, having merged with the metal in the prison. He left the sheet of metal he had created to protect Jacob, forming a suit of armor instead, asking the pirates to simply surrender and prevent damage to the prison. After the pirates refused, Alkali and Jacob prepared for battle, only to suddenly stop when they realized that Henry Avery, the leader of the Everything Pirates, was now missing. This didn't stop them for long, however, as they soon sprang in to attack, with Alkali attempting to merge with Arukana's armor. However, he was quickly rebuffed by the Seastone inside. Alkali instead began to attempt to restrict and attack Arukana with a multitude of spikes created by manipulating the prison walls.[2]

While Arukana's weapons and defenses prevented Alkali from getting the victory at the start of their fight, he managed to get the jump on Arukana and separate him from Seizawa by opening up a hole in the floor, leading to Cell Block 4. With Arukana remarking on the type of "game" that Alkali was playing, Alkali remarked that Arukana seemed to enjoy playing dress-up and created a series of suits of armor to match Arukana's Apeiron Armor. Arukana was unamused and destroyed two of the suits of armor near-instantly. This caused Alkali to change tactics, instead attempting to crush Arukana under an iron pillar. The pair had a back and forth like this for a while, with Alkali throwing a new and dangerous technique at Arukana while Arukana managed to narrowly avoid harm or counterattack, with Alkali constantly checking to see if Arukana was enjoying himself.[3]

Eventually, Alkali managed to take control of Arukana's armor externally by coating it in metal that he was merged with. Having heard Arukana shout expletives, Alkali said that Arukana would need a "time out" and began to take him to Cell Block 3 to imprison him. However, using a voice command on his suit, Arukana was able to surprise Alkali and injure him with an explosion. While Alkali prepared to strike once again, Arukana's eyes turned purple, warning Alkali to surrender. However, Alkali said that his pride as a marine and vice warden of Hellion Prison wouldn't allow him to do so, creating a wave of liquid metal to crush and disorient Arukana. In response, Arukana attacked with his Rider Punch. The attack was too fast and too large for Alkali to avoid, knocking him out of the metal he was assimilated with and into a wall, rendering him unconscious.[3]

Alkali later awoke and helped quell the riot that had been started in the prison by the Everything Pirates, specifically knocking out Ferrara Pan. After the riot was stopped, Alkali voiced his disappointment in needing to punish all the prisoners, but soon showed concern over ZZ's emotional state as she seemed incredibly enraged by the day's events.[5]
