The Baro Baro no mi is a Paramecia type Devil Fruit that allows the user to manipulate the air pressure of the space around them, making them a Barometric Human (気圧人間 Kiatsu-ningen). It was eaten by Hide.

Etymology[]

  • Baro (バロ) is the shortened version of Baromētā (バロメーター), which translates to "Barometer" in Japanese.

Appearance[]

The Baro Baro no Mi is a unique fruit, resembling a pristine white sphere, akin to a cantaloupe, but distinctively adorned with swirls that ripple out like the delicate frills of an artichoke. The jade colored stem of the fruit splits in two and curls in on one end while the other points out like an arrow.

Overview[]

Strengths[]

The main ability of the Baro Baro no Mi is allowing the user to freely manipulate air pressure. Users gain the capacity to adjust atmospheric conditions at will, fundamentally altering the environment around them. This ability opens the door to a wide array of applications.

The ability to control air pressure allows users to achieve sustained flight. By decreasing air pressure beneath them and increasing it above, they create an upward force that counteracts gravity. This aerial mobility not only grants them freedom of movement but also serves as a strategic advantage in combat and navigation. Users can maneuver with remarkable agility, making them challenging targets to hit and enabling them to reach otherwise inaccessible places.

Users can manipulate air pressure to create protective barriers. By rapidly increasing the air pressure around them, they can generate invisible, formidable shields. These barriers are highly effective at deflecting attacks, whether physical, energy-based, or projectile, making the user nearly impervious to harm. The ability to adapt the barrier's shape and size gives users a tactical edge, as they can customize defenses to suit different situations.

The manipulation of air pressure is a potent offensive tool. Users can concentrate and release pressurized air in the form of devastating blasts. These air-blast attacks can be unleashed as concentrated beams, shockwaves, or even explosive bursts. The force generated by such attacks can shatter obstacles, incapacitate opponents, and alter the terrain, making it a versatile offensive ability.

Air pressure manipulation can be employed to enhance sensory perception. By altering the air pressure in the immediate surroundings, users can heighten their senses. This ability enables them to detect subtle changes in atmospheric conditions, vibrations in the air, and even minute fluctuations in pressure caused by the movements of people or objects. This heightened awareness grants them a significant advantage in anticipating threats and tracking targets.

The Baro Baro no Mi's power extends to the manipulation of local weather conditions. Users can adjust air pressure, humidity, and temperature to influence the climate in their immediate vicinity. While they can't summon catastrophic storms or change global weather patterns, they can create localized effects such as rain, fog, or gusts of wind. This weather manipulation has applications in combat tactics, stealth, and environmental adaptation.

Weaknesses[]

While the fruit provides strong defensive abilities, without a great deal of mastery, these abilities can potentially lead to unintended consequences due to its area of effect. Full utilization of the Baro Baro no Mi's potential demands a high level of mastery over air pressure control as well as knowledge on atmospheric phenomenon. Novice users may struggle to use the fruit effectively.

Continuous use of air pressure manipulation can lead to exhaustion, further risking the users well-being due to unintended or unstable weather conditions. Additionally, extreme weather conditions such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and the like have the potential to overpower the users control of the air pressure.

Much like all Devil Fruits, Sea Stone and drowning pose a serious threat to the user.

Usage[]

Hidé has derived his usage of the Baro Baro no Mi to compliment his style of combat; a very offensive focused and aggressive style that tends to showcase his sheer overpowering nature.

Techniques[]

  • 1st form- Zōkyō (増強): Pressurizing the air heavily in front of his striking points before the point of contact to increase the potency of his strike tenfold. Combined with Hidé's already immense strength, this technique has toppled entire structures, shattered the reinforced arm of Rear Admiral Hanzai Jack, and even caused earthquakes.
  • 2nd form- Messatsu (滅殺): By heavily pressurizing the air around his fists, Hidé creates what is essentially a blast of air waiting to be triggered. Not to be confused with 1st form, Messatsu is a ranged application of the same principle. When Hidé throws a punch, most often in the general direction of his intended target, this blast expels from his fist with an unexpected intensity. The ensuing winds have been shown toppling stretches of forestry and overwhelming those who lack the stability or weight to keep their footing. This technique can be condensed however, doing so forms a very small, immensely pressurized pocket of air to form in front of his striking point. When the strike is thrown, this refined pocket is sent toward the target at blinding speeds, and an even greater force. The telltale sign of this technique is not the usual foggy pocket at the strike point, but the cannon-like sound that is made after it is launched. Once the sound is heard, it is almost always too late. The effects of this technique can be manipulated in a variety of ways. If used in conjunction with Kogane no ken, this ranged attack sends a massive fireball in the direction of the target. If directed at an angle into the ground in the direction of the opponent, it breaks up the earth as it passes through, uprooting anything in its path. If used into the ocean itself, it can either take on the form of a roaring tsunami, or split massive waves in two.
  • 3rd form- Itami (いたみ):, literally meaning pain is a technique where Hidé grabs hold of a target/s limb then proceeds to steadily increase the pressure on said limb or even into their body. This causes a great deal of pain, much like the name implies, to the appendage and if left to keep increasing the pressure, the appendage will cave from the intensity.
  • 4th form - Senmetsu (殲滅): Hide's most seen technique begins with the swift formation of a powerful vortex of air enveloping his fists and elbows. As this vortex takes shape, it's unleashed in a relentless succession of strikes, creating a storm of devastating blows. Each strike in this onslaught grows exponentially in force and speed, promising a cascade of destruction. This technique, often used strategically to seize the advantage in combat, ensures that Hidé lands multiple consecutive strikes with increasing impact. When combined with Kogane no Ken, it reaches unparalleled levels of devastation, transforming the battlefield into a maelstrom of chaos as the target is incinerated to nothingness, leaving only drifting ash in its wake. However, it's crucial to note that invoking this overwhelming power exacts a heavy toll on Hide's energy and reserves, making it a last-resort maneuver to be employed sparingly.
  • 1st breath - Burokku to Sakeru (ブロックと避ける): Compressing air around his fists, elbows, knees, or feet, to form solid spaced over his striking points. He has referred to these pockets of air used as training pads. These pockets of heavily condensed air maintain their form when struck and lessen if not outright negate damage. This ability is also used to heighten Hidé's mobility, capable of bursting one of these pockets on a moment's notice to push himself or others out of incoming attacks, or just propel himself to his destination faster than sprinting.
  • 2nd breath - Kyohi (拒否): Hidé creates a massive body of pressurized air around his entire body to create a massive blast. Sending his opponent flying back, repelling any and all attacks, but at a cost. This technique causes a fair amount of damage to Hidé if not fortified by armament haki.
  • Shokuzai (贖罪): This technique involves Hidé condensing the air around his body and solely on his body to prolong battle beyond what he's physically capable of. By condensing and manipulating the air directly on the surface of his skin, he forces prolonged movement and immensely heightened reflexes. This creates an area of highly pressurized air that immediately deteriorates any easily broken or torn substances. (i.e. grass, light shrubbery, clothes) During use, Hidé is limited to minor usage of other techniques stemming from his Devil fruit power, due to the high concentration required to maintain this form.
  • Saishū no Senkō (最終の閃光): Hidé creates a super condensed pocket of air and continues to compress it until a electricity crackles across his body. Hidé is capable of utilizing lightning to a lesser degree in overall combat, this technique however, is more like a single massive electrical blast. When Hidé makes contact with another entity, the lightning he wields essentially grounds through the receiving entity. It's intensity has been remarked by Marciel Klaus as being like the Goro Goro no Mi.
  • Biggu Ban Ken (ビッグバン拳): Hidé creates two very large pockets of pressurized air around the point in which he is striking from, like his fist and elbow for example. The first propels his fist at an even more accelerated rate, making his standard strike increasingly more lethal, and the other bursts upon impact, sending a highly condensed blast of air through the target that has been struck.
  • Reitetsu na Danmaku (冷徹な弾幕): As air pressure lowers, so does the temperature. Using this technique lowers the pressure up to a 20' radius, isolating the moisture in the air, dropping the pressure further rendering it to ice, applying pressure creates hail. This technique, in essence, creates a surprise hailstorm from the air itself, berating the target with ice from all sides.
  • Saigo no Ibuki (最期の息吹): Hidé's least favorite technique. This technique allows him to drop the air pressure in a specific area, normally a persons head and/or lungs. This technique is rather bland in Hidé's eyes as that's all it takes. A pocket of severely lowered air pressure and the target becomes unconscious if centered at their head, and can potentially burst the targets lungs by increasing the pressure inside of them.
