First Response[]

Viktor had stopped training early today. It had been a while since he read that report by the cyborg, but it still bothered him. There was a girl out there, who would be actively hunt down by Marines. He thought the entire thing was stupid; the fact that blame would be put on an actual child. Frustration got the best of him, and he slammed his fist against the slam. A crack ran up the side, causing dust and small bits of rubble to rain down from the roof. He brought his fist back down to his side before bursting out of the training room. He knew who he had to find, who he had to talk to. The old man had never lead him astray before.

Viktor would find out that his search wouldn't be a troublesome one, for the figure of Hakuma stood on the corridor outside. He eyed this one, who was amongst many of his students. Given that Varius had been visiting Azreael some time ago, he figured why not see the others at their respective Marine bases.

"That noise must have been you, Vi." Varius' rough voice came out, almost dropping down into the scenery given his ridiculous height. "I can also feel the trouble within you... What is it?" Seemed that many of his students had to pass through a phase of this.

Viktor sighed in relief when he spotted the goliath of a man. While Pirates would’ve run away in fear, the young Commander felt nothing but safety when he was near Varius. Vik smiled as he looked up at him, before the expression of frustration returned. The expression that made it seem as if he was put in an impossible situation, where both outcomes were wrong. “Hey, boss.” he began. Vik took in a deep breath, trying to relax his nerves. He still felt so tense. “I was reading that report. That one Phoebe made. And as I looked through it, I just…” he cut himself off, looking down at the ground.

He suddenly shot his head back up, his expression still that of a torn person. “I don’t think it’s fair that a child should be brought in or killed! She didn’t even do anything!”

"Hmmmmm," Varius took to rubbing his mustache, looking ahead for a solid few seconds, before looking back at Viktor. "I do recall reading one such as that..." Indeed, almost everyone had been paying attention to one of their youngest forces, Phoebe and her Cyborg army, they were certainly revolutionarizing some things. Some portion of this had Varius recall his talk with Azrael.

A breath escaped Varius' nostrils, he moved one of his hands to cup Viktor's shoulder, the inwards of his eyebrows rose. "You must be incredibly proud of yourself for giving the situation a fair judgement, alright?" Yes, after all, Varius feeling proud of him for that wouldn't be enough, Viktor had to feel it himself. "Will you take action based on such opinion, Vi? What will you do...?"

“Honestly, I’m angry that I care about this so much…” Viktor replied. His father had chided him about this when he was younger, saying that a compassionate heart wasn’t suited for a Marine. The duty of a Marine was to bring criminals in for justice without so much as questioning it. But Viktor had never understood that. He believed that justice involved looking at all the outcomes of a choice, and finding the one that was moral dependant on the situation. This child hadn’t done anything. Her father was the criminal, so why was the cyborg insistent on exposing a kid to her brand of justice?

He looked away for a moment before turning back to the man that had helped to hone his skills. “If I could be bold for a moment,” Viktor began. “I feel it would be immoral to bring in a child, when her father is the criminal! It would be against what the Marines stand for! Do we wanna be seen to the public as just merciless executioners? Willing to kill a child in the name of this warped form of justice? I didn’t become a Marine to follow orders blindly, I became a Marine to save and protect people. And right now, this child needs protection. She is innocent.”

Viktor’s eyes were now filled with new sense of determination, the boy now knowing what he had to do. “Master Hakuma, I need to save this girl.”

Ah, so there was much sentiments that were buried deep down into Viktor, of course there was, Varius' gut would never lie to him. This time, for sure, he managed not to pry into his student's psyche, which he had done with Azrael. Varius reprimanded himself for doing that, but, that wasn't enough, he had to surpass his own self and drop that habit. Fighters were people of attitude, not boasting.

The hand that was on Viktor's shoulder squeezed it lightly. "Don't focus that anger upon yourself, you shouldn't berate your thoughts if they are your genuine feelings." Varius spoke, his voice sooth. For that moment, he couldn't be the Marine that many criminals feared, what he was- Who he was, was Strato Varius. "Work on them, do what you seek to do."

Varius' hand left Viktor's shoulder, he crossed his arms and stood proudly tall in front of him. "I didn't train you so that you would adopt my Justice," He shook his head a few times, "It was so that you developed your own!!!"

Viktor beamed at Varius’ words, the older Marine calming him down in an instant. All the frustration that had built up in him since reading that report faded, being replaced with a sense of purpose. Viktor now knew his duty, what he had to do. Varius’ words had only solidified his resolve. The boy would be lying if he said that he didn’t feel a bit proud of himself too.

He too crossed his arms, imitating the form of Hakuma as his smiled widened. He let out a laugh that combined both joy and pride, but mainly a sense of gratitude. “YES SIR!” he exclaimed. “I’ll make sure I’ll use my justice to become a man that you can be proud of!” he continued. Viktor let his arms fall to his side and began to leave, feeling somewhat giddy of the theatric exit he had the chance to take. He suddenly stopped, realizing he had forgot something. Viktor turned back around to face Varius, a sheepish look on his face.

“Er,” he said. “I’ll probably need some help though.”

A smile instantly beamed on Varius' expression, while he observed all of the energy and vibe that emanated from Viktor, much different from the one minutes ago. This really felt like they had just undergone some training sessions. "Don't worry about me too much, Vi." Marines truly were much more than simple soldiers, than men simply following their higher ups.

Varius blinked several times, letting out a laugh. "Hakuku, so you're requesting my help?"

Viktor almost replied instantly, but gave it a moment. He realized that he had to come at this somewhat tactically, and use the information he knew about the Marines to his advantage. Maybe being forced to study their members as a child would finally have its advantages. “No offence sir, but I’m not asking for your help.” he said. “Well, not directly. If you came with me, we’d attract attention. Your height and your name would make you all too noticeable. I hope I’m not being too bold here…”

An idea popped into his mind. “But maybe, you could introduce me to someone that could help! Someone who sees things like I do. But, uh. Preferably around my height or something. I don’t want too much attention being drawn to this. I mean no offence to you, master Hakuma.”

Varius waved one of his hands and closed his eyes. "Be as a bold as you desire, Vi, I understand it." Opening them, he looked straight into Viktor and smile.

The subsequent request had Varius blink once and his mouth fall agape, even if not by much. It stood that way for several more seconds, much as if he had been thinking about something, someone. Suddenly, a smile made its way back into his face, Varius dropped his arms and finally responded. "I know just the right one.”

Azrael’s crew wasn’t like the other marine crews that sailed the seas. He didn’t take officers from the academy or nourish upcoming hotshots. No. He chose people who he saved that wanted to save the marines. Able bodied people who wanted to ensure that the justice that protected them would be available for others.

So imagine the shock when the Old Man called! Oh the boisterous voice telling Azrael he’d be getting a brat to take care of. Great! Top scores. Some bigshot who all the girls loved surely. Azrael hated those types. He hated them when in school and couldn’t stand them now. This brat is gonna try to come and change everything.

Azrael pulled from his cigar and looked over to Catherine. The two of them and the officers stood on the deck of their ship. The others watched the approaching marine ship. Hakuma wanted Azrael to stop by HQ and pick him up but Azrael didn’t have the time to go to a Sky Island to grab some runt.

“Nervous?” Azrael asked Catherine.

“Why’d I be nervous?” Catherine asked quietly.

“Cause you won’t have anything to do. I mean the newbie has to do all the cooking and cleaning.”

“Oh that’s all I’m good for you bastard?!” Catherine screamed. “I’m going to cut you up and feed you to the Sea-Kings!”

“Oooooo Sea-king burgers would be delicious tonight.”

As Viktor rowed the small raft as fast as he could, he couldn’t help but let a smile appear on his face. It felt like he was on a skipping stone, jumping about from spot to spot. He could get used to this, Viktor thought. The scent of seawater, the occasional splashing of water, the sounds of the gulls above. It was so tranquil, he for a moment understood why freedom was so sought after. And then from just around the horizon, he spotted what he was here for.

Captain Azrael’s ship, a Marine that the old man had also trained. It was exciting, the premise to meet such a man. A man that his mentor had praised before. As his raft approached the side of the ship, he didn’t know what to do now. Did he wait to be picked up? He should’ve waited, of course. But impatience got the best of him. He leaped from the raft, clasping onto the side of the ship. With his physicality, he was able to scale it, before landing onto the deck itself. Viktor began to look around, unsure of where to go now. “Hello?” he called out. “Is this the right place?”

“Oh my god!” Azrael jumped. He managed to catch his cigar inches from the ground before turning to Viktor. “Why...why not wait for the ship to dock?” Catherine smirked. “Annoying when someone rushes off ahead right?”

“Yes! It is!” Azrael responded. He turned to Catherine with a sinister growl. “Oh you’re so funny!”

“Mister….Viktor?” Catherine continued. “It is a pleasure. My name is Lieutenant Catherine. And this here is Marine Captain Azrael.”

“Welcome Viktor.” Azrael addressed Viktor. “I’m excited to have another student of that old monster.”

While the pair spoke, he simply stood there in awe. Viktor felt excitement rush through him. He opened his mouth but no sound came out. He coughed, before finally speaking. “You’re Azrael! And Catherine! This is so cool!” he exclaimed. The boy beamed, a large smile on his face. It was almost impossible for him to contain his excitement.

“I think you’re really pretty!” he said facing Catherine. “And the way you use your powers? Holy shit, thats cool!” he continued. He quickly placed a hand on his mouth, his brows raised. He sheepishly let his hand fall to his side. “Am I allowed to swear here? Is that against the rules?”

But any embarrassment faded as he now turned to face Azrael. “I’m like, your biggest fan.” he began. Viktor unsheathed his dagger, which appeared to resemble a mix of a machete and a saxe knife. It seemed a lot more aggressive, suited for someone that relied on strength rather than elegance. “I started to use a dagger cause of you! I, uh. Call it "Prince", because of your dagger named "King". Holy crap, this is awesome! I get to meet the both of you!” he continued, sheathing his dagger as he did so.

“Wow.” Was the only thing Azrael could say. The utter shock of having an actual superfan. And then for him to flirt with Catherine so openly. He knew his duty is to reign in the man but god this is hilarious! “Thank you…” Azrael started. Oh and the giant dagger! Which was more of a sword than an actual dagger. Shit if Azrael used king then this thing should be called Mountain.

“Not just meet but join our team! And-”

“Okay here are the rules!” Catherine interrupted. Suddenly assuming the role of captain of this ship. “Swearing is fine. Drinking is fine. You’re a grown man. I appreciate the worship and you must do it daily-”

“Catherine-”

“And bow whenever you see me!”

“Catherine.” Azrael tapped Catherine’s shoulder. “Viktor this will be your new home. And I hope we can get along. I will guide you in your path to justice. Any questions?”

Viktor simply stared at them with starry eyes, taking in every single word they said. He was still somewhat taken aback by the opportunity that Hakuma had managed to give him, to meet two of his greatest inspirations in the Marine corps. He wondered how many others got this sort of a chance.

As Catherine began to tease him, he simply laughed. Viktor felt somewhat embarrassed, standing by someone he found to be immensely attractive. But as she and Azrael finished bickering, and she offered the chance for him to ask any questions, he seized the opportunity to speak. “No questions, but I can’t actually drink.” he said. The boy awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, as if this sort of mistake was made quite often and it bothered him to speak out about it; especially amongst those he respected. “I’m only 15, so no alcohol for me.”

“FIFTEEN?!!!!” They screamed in unison. Hell, Azrael felt like he hadn’t drunk enough milk in his life. Which shouldn’t be a problem as he literally absorbs the life out of others. He must’ve absorbed thousands of years during his time as a marine. And somehow, someway, this kid managed to be so goddamn big.

“No wonder the old man likes you so much.” Azrael growled. Giants tend to get along the best. “Well either way, welcome. And after some time, you’ll need to drink after seeing some of the things you’ll see.” Azrael chuckled. “Clives, show Viktor to his room. Viktor, I would’ve loved to throw a party but we actually have a mission coming up. So I need you to get settled in and report back to the war room in two hours.”

A strange sound could be heard in the distance, small puffs, as if someone was shooting an air gun. The sound seemed to be getting louder, until it suddenly stopped. The form of a man, in a navy blue and black version of the standard marine officer uniform, landed on the deck of the ship. He turned to the nearest crew man. "Where's Azrael?"

Viktor turned his head to the source of the voice, spotting the white-haired man. The boy quickly placed a name to the face, searching through the personnel reports his father had always made him read. Henry Benjamin, a Marine Captain. "I don't know, Captain Benjamin." Viktor replied. "I'm on my way to the war room right now, though. Captain Azrael said he'd be there now, so thats a place to start."

"Alright," Benjamin said, tufting the collar of his jacket. "Take me to him."

Viktor nodded, before beginning to walk towards the war room. "This way, sir." he called out. As the pair made their way through the ship, they eventually found their way to the room. Viktor took a moment to calm his nerves, somewhat excited by this whole premise. He knocked on the door before opening it. "Captain Azrael," he said. "Captain Benjamin is here to see you."

"Excellent!" Azrael screamed. Of course the sound of his eternal rival brought a rare happiness to Azrael. Not in the weird sense. But in the chance of a child being left alone on a carriage with parents. This upcoming mission would be boring of course. But with Benjamin, he had a toy to squeeze and bother! And even better, with Phoebe's recent destruction of the Dastardly Devil Pirates, he needed to make sure that he could rely on Benjamin. For the first battle grew closer.

"Thank you Viktor. Benji!!!! Welcome aboard and to my team." The room was rather large. But only Catherine stood to the side of Azrael. Before them was a massive table with a map of an island. "I hope we can have a great time freeing this island from that evil pirate."

Viktor nodded in acknowledgement. He hesitated for a moment as if unsure what to do now, which was only because of how he had just spotted Catherine. He decided to walk into the room and stand by the map, remembering Azrael's mention of him now being apart of the team.

"I'm not in your team, remember that Azrael," said Benjamin. "We're co-leading this operation. I wouldn't even be here if you didn't keep letting pirates escape."

"Akekekekeke! You're so funny Benjamin." Azrael laughed. But that was one of his concerns Pirates kept escaping once he handed them over. It was a good thing only Benjamin knew about the Brawler pirates. "But whose been confined to a hospital bed?" A sharp cut.

"But we're not here to point fingers. We have a big operation coming. Captain Benjamin is here to lead this mission as well. Because the scope of the operation. It involves an entire island and so I decided to call for assistance. Especially my best friend." Azrael grinned at Benjamin.

"Are you familiar with it?"

"We don't all have the regenerative capabilities of a vampire." He began taking off his coat, laying it on the back of a chair as he sat down. "And I'm not your friend. I'm a colleague at best. Anyways, I'm not too familiar with the layout. I haven't been there before."

"Well its a good thing I'm here." Azrael chuckled. He pointed to the island. This island is called Alberon. Its a Fall island," Oh how happy he was at that! Summer and Winter islands are the worst. "that recently underwent a change in leadership. The new King however, swore allegiance to a nearby pirate. We need to get in there and eradicate or arrest the pirates. Then help them find a new king that will serve the World Government."

As Benjamin and Azrael bickered, Viktor leaned forwards to look at the map. His eyes scanned over it, taking note of even the scale and directions of the landmass. He leaned back to his normal position, returning his attention to Benjamin and Azrael.

"Sounds simple enough. What do we know about the pirates?"

"Well..he is one of the top pirates for the Ghost Pirates, one of the Super Rookie crews of Paradise." Azrael took a pull from his cigar and bit his lip.

"Annnnd?" Catherine challenged.

"He's a giant. One of the few Paradise Giants that managed to sail the seas. Meaning this isn't going to be some easy no-named battle. This is going to be a troublesome war possibly." Azrael looked to Catherine and then Benjamin. Finally to Viktor.

"I'll understand if you want to sit this one out."

But instead of seeing any sort of fear in his eyes, Viktor simply looked excited. He had a chance to save people, to make a difference. He respected Azrael, and so he didn't want to simply scoff in his face at the suggestion. "Of course not sir," he began. "A marine's gotta take on challenges head on, right?"

“How much of a plan do you already have in place?” Benjamin asked.

"That's my boy!" Azrael exclaimed. But leave it to Benjamin to ruin a fucking moment. Azrael rolled his eyes.

"Well, Marine ships tend to attract the most attention. Even if they aren't actively monitoring their shores." Azrael pointed to the eastern end of Alberon. "So, we get onto a raft. I'll fly of course. And infiltrate over here. My crew will wait here," His fingers moved to the sea. "In case they try to escape or their are any straddlers. Plus, can't risk any other ships joining them. Catherine, you're in charge of that." Azrael returned his attention to the island.

'Very little is known about this island. Meaning we will have to play it by here. From previous experiences, we might just have to fight our way to the center. Where its been reported the throne and Athos is. But shouldn't be too hard to spot a giant."

Benjamin leaned back in his chair. "I've fought large beasts before. Your plan seems sound so far, although I don't think we'd need a raft if it's just us. I can fly too you know."

"Oh yeah you can fly." Azrael rolled his eyes. "but what about Viktor, how's your Geppo?"

"Ready to be used, sir." Viktor replied. "I won't slow us down."

"That's a go!"

The makeshift team made their way to the deck of the ship. Of course they chose to Geppo to the island which was in eyes view. But Azrael would fly. He loved the feeling of the wings beneath his wings. He looked back at Catherine and nodded.

"You two head on, I'll make sure everything is good here." Azrael said to his comrades.

While everyone was getting ready, Azrael and his team members seem to have forgotten about someone particular. A face that no one would be happy to see if they didn't know who she truly was. A sound of metallic footsteps on wood approached slowly but surely from inside the ship. Covered in shadow, until a blue figured looked out from the dark opening. Making her way out with an unchanging expression, and a familiar facial structure. One that would send the people that recognized it into an immediate state of alert.

"There are unfamiliar voices. Azrael, i do not understand what you have been doing, but i see people that are not within my system."

A female voice said. One that was oddly familiar too. And combined with that face, one would immediately assume the worst. However, there were distinct differences. Metal plating, indicated by black lines in the face. Deep, black pupils instead of white ones. A shorter, overall stature. And to top it all off, an uncharacteristic, unchanging expression of contempt. This wasn't Phoebe. No, it was one of her androids. PB-Android Model 3. Renamed by Azrael to just Three.

"Strangers, identify yourselves this instant, and tell me about your affiliation with Azrael."

Viktor almost jumped at the sight of the sudden voice, feeling himself tense up once he saw who it was. He immediately presumed it was that Commodore, the one that wanted to bring in a child for justice. However, his mind told him he was wrong. He had read reports about Phoebe, stemming from a condition habit from his childhood to study Marines. This...being had slight differences, but Viktor was able to pick them out. "Uhm," he began. "I'm Marine Commander Tauri Viktor, age 15. I'm joining forces with Captain Azrael through Hakuma's help."

He stopped speaking for a moment, before chiming in with a question. "You're not Phoebe, right? Are you one of her androids?"

"Azrael," Benjamin didn't seem surprised in the least, he just pointed at the android, "what the hell is that?"

"See Benjamin-" Azrael started. But he was silently cursing himself. Of course now she would appear! Why wouldn't that thing be asleep at this time during the night. The mist could lull even the most rowdiest child into an eternal dream. But here, the spitting image of Commodore Phoebe appeared. "Guys, this is PB-Android 3. Or as we call her, Three. She is one of our newest friends. She wanted to see the world so I offered to show her."

"Three, this is Marine Captain Benjamin. He's going to help me with this upcoming mission."

"I did not come here because i wanted to see the world. Azrael broke into one of Miss Phoebe's workshops, and when i sparred him because i wanted to leave the joy of bringing an end to Azrael to Miss Phoebe herself, he picked me up and took me with him. Considering how the most optimal choice of action was to come with him and gather information for Miss Phoebe, i did not fight back. I am here for the sake of Miss Phoebe, and in order to assist her, and her alone."

The android said as cold and honest as it could. She had no concept of lying.

"Oh." Viktor mumbled. He didn't know how to reply to that.

Benjamin glared at Azrael. He felt more inclined to believe the lifeless machine than the person that had taken a bullet for a pirate. "You're an idiot."

Azrael shrugged.

"Well! Phoebe nearly destroyed an island and I wanted to make sure she wasn't doing anything else that might hurt civilians. Screw me!" Azrael looked to Three. "Me and you will have to talk about confidential information dammit. I love how you conveniently leave out the part that I offered you a chance to come and you said yes."

"Anyway! It is time for our mission. You guys ready?!"

"Wherever you're going to go, i am coming with you. I will not take no for an answer. You took me with you knowing what kind of problems may arise from your choices. So you should have no objections with me insisting that i come with you. I don't know what your mission is, and i don't really feel the need to ask about it."

Phoebe made these androids in quite the strange way. They had personality, but she actually programmed them in a way to act similar to actual androids. They have the potential to be very snarky and sarcastic, and even come up with unique insults for certain people. Three made her way over towards Azrael, walking in front of him. Then... she tiptoed in order to be able to reach around Azrael's shoulders with her arms, and then wrapping her legs around his waist as well. Holding onto Azrael like a baby sloth would hold onto it's mother.

"Let's go... Hmph... Don't stare at me..." She said to Viktor and Benjamin.

"Uhm, uh." Viktor mumbled. He wasn't too sure what to do, but remembered the orders Captain Azrael had given him before Three had interrupted them. The commander turned his head to Catherine and waved a farewell, a smile on his face. The boy took in a deep breath and he suddenly began to run towards the edge of the deck before kicking off. For a moment, it would've felt as if the ship shook. But surely, that couldn't haven been possible...right? As Viktor soared through the air, he kicked off the air through the usage of Geppo, making his way to the island.

Benjamin glared at the android. He clearly didn't trust it. He turned away, jumping off from the ship as he headed towards the island with his own Geppo.

Azrael held onto the android tightly. Rolling his eyes. Three wasn't like what he would expect. He felt a strange sense that she wanted to come for more than she let on. He had his own hypothesis about Three. Azrael believed, in all his craziness, that he understood the mad scientist more than she knew.

A man who saw people as nothing more than livestock. And a woman who viewed people as potential experiments. How different were they really? Both monsters that have a twisted understanding of humanity. Why did Azrael hate Phoebe so much...

Either way, he turned his snarky eye roll into a playful grin.

"Fine." Two bat-like wings erupted from his back. And with a single flap the two of them were off into the sky.

"Seems like someone likes being carried." Azrael teased. "I doubt that mad genius didnt install some way to fly." His voice carried the arrogant hint that he knew she was beginning to enjoy his company.

A Damsel Named Trouble[]

The Ghost Pirates. A crew whose name could send shivers down even the kings of the world spine. But recently, Tom Glynn made a startling order. He sent his commanders out to conquer lands in Paradise in his name.

And although Athos missed his home by the captain's side, Athos followed Glynn's dreams. A Giant in Paradise is a rare treat. But to Glynn, Athos was much more than some over dominating weapon to be used against the Ghost Pirate's enemies. Muscles that had muscles. A body which dwarfed the largest of men. Yet Glynn saw Athos as a valued commander. So how could Athos stray from his saviors words?

Athos needed to expand Glynn'sinfluence. So he took Alberon as his first foothold. The king was quick to trade over his authority when he saw the mountains of gold. As well as the massive foot hanging above him.

"What do you plan on doing, my lord?" The king asked Athos, who sat on a throne carved from the massive mountain behind him. "I've ordered the guards to find the strongest men to begin constructing your army."

"And the people?" Athos thundering voice shook the earth beneath him.

"None the wiser."

"Good, keep it that way. Once I have the manpower you will order Alberon to launch an attack on the nearest three islands."

"And you my lord?"

"I'll be here. The World Government will mobilize if they see the Ghost commander's flag. But I want ships on every corner of this island. Strict guard patrols. Curfew. This island is under lock down and isolation." Athos slammed his arm. Cracking the rock between his meaty appendage.

"But what if the people ask why? We aren't in any wars and have excellent relationships with the neighboring forces."

"Tell them a viral outbreak or something. Whatever it takes to keep them from finding out anything and trying to escape."

"R-right away." The king bowed and ran off.

The people of Alberon were simple folk. Merchants, farmers, blacksmiths, textile makers and weavers. Their simplicity is how they avoid trouble. They don't have much to offer and that aerves as a deterrent for pirates and marines alike. Why take over this trash heap?

But recently, after the mysterious death of the previous king, the island started to change for the worst. The men started disappearing. Taxation increased heavily. Almost as if preparing for war.

And tonight, guards patrolled the roads to make sure everyone was inside by 8PM. They moved like thugs. Bullying anyone and everyone defyed this new rule. And they seemed to enjoy it...

But guards weren't the only people outside. While there were the occassional brave people trying their luck by going outside, there was one particular person who did not have affiliation with the island itsself. Having arrived on a small, unsuspecting vessel, no one really bothered with this person. They would get the same treatment as anybody else. No matter how young they were.

On the roof of a smaller building sat a girl. Her outfit consisted of her red hair tied into a single, long ponytail, lines of black cloth wrapped around her chest, arms and legs, a mask covering her mouth and nose, and a black pair of oversized, male-sized shorts, tied around her waist with a makeshift belt made out of rope. A young girl that looked like quite the rogue. From out of these large shorts, she pulled out a small book, labeled "Logbook". Opening it and beginning to write in it.

"As i am writing this, i currently find myself on a roof, overlooking the nearby neighbourhood of the island that i have ventured on. It looks like the people that live on here had to be on guard because of some mean folk suddenly taking control of the island. And rumor has it that they achieved it with more than just threats. Gold! I am certainly going to take some of that with me, before i am going to leave this island."

As she finished writing, she put the logbook back inside of the large pockets of her shorts. She was writing about all of her solo adventures while she wasn't by the side of her crew. Despite her rogue appearance, she was actually just a pirate in disguise of someone she is not. Hiding her identity, just in case that someone might recognize her. After all, she was none other than Bravado Hanako, daughter of Bravado Diego and member of the Dastardly Devil Pirates! With her most recent bounty having been revealed as to being an impressive Beli65,000,000 for a child her age, some might consider her quite a threat, and worth capturing.

Those who don't take her serious though just because she is a child are out of luck though. Ever her and her father met a man by the name of Noir Chateau, Hanako has started training not just her devil fruit powers, but herself. While she wasn't as stong as a burly, well-trained pirate, she made up by being incredibly agile, fast and slippery. She even got on top of this roof without the use of her devil fruit powers and by merely jumping. And as she finished writing, she stood up, and leaped off the roof. Onto the next one. Hoping her way through the town she was in.

Having traveled quite the distance by just jumping around, Hanako spotted a couple of guards patrolling through the town. This must be why the people are forced to stay inside of their houses. Considering what her plans are, she might as well try and size up these guards to see what kind of people she has to deal with. Thus she hopped off from the roof that she was on and gracefully landed on the street, right before the guards. Her distinct white eyes making contact with those of the guards.

"Helloooo! Is it okay for me to play outside?"

A child outside past curfew?! And even worst one that none of the guards were able to recognize! That was the sign of a troublemaker. Her loose clothong mixed her monkey like behavior annoyed the captain, who held the largest spear of the men.

"Hey, get down from there!" The man barked. His lieutenant quickly spun his own spear and tossed it with immense strength. Aiming to cut the girl's leg and send her tumbling to the earth.

"Get her and bring her alive!"

When the spear came flying towards her her, Hanako immediately stepped to the side. She could feel the strong winds brushing against her leg. Her reaction time had increased as well, and she tried to dodge more often too, instead of always having to rely on her devil fruit powers. But she could feel the wind brushing against her leg. That was a close one, and if it had hit, that would've been the end for her leg. She is a mere child, and they are willing to do something like this to her?! These guards were no good. And it was enough to convince Hanako to face them.

"You are not very nice, you know! Quite mean, actually. Throwing a spear at a girl like me? Am i that much of a threat to you? Or did you just want to watch a girl stumble and fall? Either way, you're a bad man! And my dad told me i can attack bad men like you!"

Hanako pointed forward with her palm. A ball of compressed nebula clouds was formed within the palm of her hands. It had a wondrous and colorful color to it. Like a ball that resembled the most beautiful part of the sky at night. But this one was made with the intention to hurt! She shot the compressed ball of nebula at the guards.

"Nebubomu!" Hanako yelled with a cheerful tone. Nebubomu was one the moves he came up with, and it consisted of forming a ball of compressed nebula, throwing it at her opponent, and letting the ball expand rapidly in a large cloud like an explosion.

"W-what the?!" The guards screamed. The sudden explosion caught many of them off guard. Sending a handful of them spiraling down the street. Defeated. To think that this little girl had so much power to take our these grown guards. But the captain was smarter than that. The second she called out that ridiculous name, the captain knew to jump from the group.

Everything started changing ever since that damned Giant came to this island in the name of the Ghost pirates. He couldn't see his daughter as much. And had to give up entire nights in order to keep his son from being enlisted. Did he want to maim this girl? No. But she is wanted. And what that monster wants he gets.

"A Devil Fruit user." The captain growled. He quickly picked up one of his comrades spears and dashed at Hanako. Jumping into the air and twirling. Sending the spear's blade aimed at her.

"Eeeep!"

An attack like that almost caught her off-guard. She wasn't dodging this one. Instead, she used her Logia powers to let the attack phase right through her. Something that Hanako didn't want to do, since she didn't want to show just what her powers were right away. She should keep enemies guessing at all times.

"Awh... Now you've done it! I am sorry mister, but I sadly can't let everyone know what my powers are! I'm going to gently put you to sleep, alright? It won't hurt, and it's not nearly as scary as it sounds!"

Hanako said, before rushing towards captain and turning herself into colorful clouds of nebula. Her goal was it to wrap herself around his head and block out all the oxygen, in order to make him pass out. The gases that these nebula clouds were filled with wouldn't all anyone to breathe. It wasn't a harmless technique by any means. But it was harmless compared to the other ones that she had.

"I am terribly sorry if this is uncomfortable for you... But you did try to impale me just now! That's now very nice either!"

"What...the..fuck..." The captains creamed. He tried to cover his face with his shirt but to no avail. For the world around started to darken. The last thing he saw, in place of Hanako, a little girl.

"S-saruu.." He moaned before drifting to sleep.

Viktor landed by the docks as silently as possible. He only hoped that Benjamin and Captain Azrael had spotted him doing so and would follow suit. There were plenty of ships which could act as cover, and during his descent down, Viktor hadn’t seen any others. They would be completely alone for now.

Benjamin landed next to Viktor, looking into the nearby town. "Where's Azrael? I thought he was right behind us."

Azrael's flight was more than a straight shot to the island. He twirled on the wind. Enjoying the feeling of it as he glided above the ocean. Azrael loved flying. It wasn't like Geppo. No. Devil Fruits that granted flight are considered rare for that reason.

The natural ability to fly. To soar above the standards of humanity. Exist in a space in itself. Undisturbed except for the occassional bug ending up in his throat.

Or the occasional robot hanging from her. Azrael danced with Three in his arms. Careful to not let her go. "I hope you enjoy this." Azrael said with warmth.

The little trip ended when Azrael landed next to Viktor and Benjamin. His wings vanished into his body. "I'm right here!"

Azrael's nose wrinkled as he took several steps forward while holding onto his metallic baby sloth. Unlike other users of his special type of Devil Fruit, Azrael's senses were permanently in their Full Beast variant. So new islands became pictures painted with the life of its inhabitants.

"This island smells funny..." He grumbled. "And delicious."

"Try not to overexert yourself," said Benjamin. "We've got a job to do, and it would go by more smoothly if you don't have to stop and eat every five seconds. You might end up taking a bite out of a civilian by accident."

Azrael's face gleamed!

"Aw you do care, Benji!" A playful tease. Though he did have a point. Azrael quite the hunger and there was some appetising options on this menu. But he wanted that big one. The smell which overwhelemed all others. A mountain of life!

"Just know I would never take a bite out of you. Unless you want me to." Azrael smirked.

Viktor smiled at the bickering pair. This was fun, the whole idea of the mission. It gave Viktor a sense of duty, a sense of belonging. "Sir," the Commander began. "Whats the next step?"

"Reconnaissance is always the first step." Azrael said to Viktor. "Information is usually the deciding factor in battle. Like the old man says, battles are won before the fight."

God Azrael hated quoting the old man. But Hakuma was right. He thought about sprouting wings and dashing off...but this isn't his usual team. And could he really trust leaving behind Viktor with Benjamin? He might implant the kid with a bunch of lies! Like how Azrael failed his initiating test several times. Or the one time he fell into the ocean trying to catch Auriel.

"We can either find the bad guys at the center of the island, ask around for information or split up and do both. Then meet up at the local inn."

"We can split up, sir." Viktor said. "Two teams would help us cover ground. One team should keep the map with them, the other team should keep me on it. I've memorized the layout."

Benjamin stroked his chin for a moment, pondering the situation. "Splitting up doesn't sound like a bad idea," said Benjamin. He took off his officer coat and began folding it up neatly. "How about Three and Viktor head to scope out the palace while Azrael and I check out the town?" He placed the coat under a rock. Due to his darker-colored uniform, it was the only giveaway that he was a marine.

Azrael hesitated. His eyes lowering as he thought about Viktor being alone with the little cyborg hanging from his body. He didn't smell anything malicious...not that she had a scent at all. No matter how much he tried, not event he slightest sniff of life. But he felt something. It drove him absolutely mad. Still, Azrael knew that she he was the only target of Phoebe's murder-army. She wouldn't harm a marine officer.

I think..

"Of course it isn't a bad idea, I thought of it." Azrael said with a cocky smile to Benjamin. He didn't have to change his clothes. Wearing only a dark dress shirt and dress pants allowed him to blend in any crowd. "Though I worry about my two newest officers going into the thick of things..." Azrael smiled at Three. Then turning to Viktor. "But that makes me feel so much better. I just want you to promise me that this is only reconnaissance. Nothing more. Anyone catches sight of you, you two get out and meet us at that Inn over there."

Azrael's gaze lead them to an old several story Inn named the Plain N Simple.

"Yes sir." Viktor replied eagerly. He didn't want to speak out against his commanding officer, so he simply agreed. He turned his head towards Three, an eager smile on his face. "Hi, Three! You ready?" he asked, his smile contagious as always.

His smile might be contagious, but it wasn't affecting this android. Three didn't really think anything of Viktor, and thus his quirky remarks and acts of kindness bounces off on her like she was made of rubber. She looked at Viktor with the same stare that she gave everyone else.

"My name is PB-Android Model 3. Three is only a name given to me by Azrael because his short attention span doesn't allow him to say anything longer than 3 syllables at a time. Miss Phoebe told me that his name is actually a lot longer, but he forgot the rest of his name because of that flaw of his. What an idiot."

Three said. Phoebe was poking fun at Azrael so much, that even the androids started doing it.

"Let's just get moving," said Benjamin. "We'll meet back up in the city in about three hours. You lead the way Azrael."

"Boy, I'm so glad that Benjamin chose me." Azrael said with a slight chuckle while rubbing the back of his head. It's weird. Something inside of him could swear that was a joke. Could she joke with him? What did this mean? The other day, Catherine said that Azrael and Phoebe aren't as different as he desired. Only separated by that thin line called morality. Azrael possessed a certain taste for life, just as Phoebe. And in that appetite lied curiosity.

He had his motives for taking Three. It was a skillful move in his war against that metallic psychopath. Yet something deep wanted to see if these things could feel. Azrael knew Three spared him...or thought she did. She had mercy. And if so, that thought possibly scared Azrael even more than what she wanted to do to innocent people. It meant that the mad scientist managed to create an artificial life that operated on emotion. Not just programmed to smile. But somehow could feel.

If Azrael could get Three to cherish him as a valued member of the marines...then that would show him just how vast Phoebe's might. A thought which kept him up late for several nights.

Either way, Azrael looked back at Three.

"Three, Viktor is an officer of the marines. So please protect him. I'm trusting you!" He said with a loving smile. "There's no one else I'd feel safer leaving him with."

Cause God knows what Catherine would do alone with that kid. She'd probably have him bowing down to her and building shrines. "Benji-chaaaaaan slow down!" Azrael called out. Running after his new partner.

Into the Giant's Den[]

Three stayed with Viktor. She didn't know what to think about him, since they have just met. Considering how he was associated with Azrael though, she would still be cautious. Especially considering how anyone associated with Azrael might be an enemy. Three is loyal to Phoebe through and through after all.

"Viktor, am I correct? Azrael told me to keep you safe. You have the appearance of a harmless, fragile civilian, which is the only reason why i'd even consider it. However, I do realize that you are a marine as well. If I have the option to save someone who is innocent and not involved with this mission, i will prioritize them. My safety is not as important as that of the civilians either. Stay focused."

The androids that Phoebe made were made with Phoebe's own sense of justice in mind. And Phoebe cared about the lives of the innocent. And they can tell them apart from appearance alone. Viktor to her looks like someone who's got no reason to be here. But she can tell that he is capable of more than he might seem. However, the android's young features and resemblance to Phoebe, especially Three in particular, considering how she was dressed up like a school girl for some odd reason, would make them also look rather harmless.

"Marines fight for the innocent, even though they have people they want to protect. Mainly family members and friends. The reason that we protect the lives of others and not just those who are close to us is what separates our sense of justice from the pirates, whom only care about themselves and the other criminals they have befriended. Viktor, do you think there is any reason to show mercy to pirates, just because they are protecting those who are close to them?"

As they walked through the strangely empty town, the sound of their feet clacking against the detailed stone floor, Viktor had been somewhat lost in thought. He kept darting his eyes around, and while to an untrained eye it may have come off as nervousness, Viktor was actually taking note of everything around them. Earlier, when he had looked at the map, he had committed it to memory. Now, he was just trying to compare the routes they were taking to the map. Plus, constantly looking around would ensure they wouldn't be ambushed, if worst came to worse.

Of course, it wasn't as if he wasn't listening to Three. He was simply more focused on their surroundings. But her question at the end prompted him to speak. He paused for a moment, unsure on how to answer. Three worked directly for Phoebe, would Three report him to her? Would he get in trouble?

The words of his mentor rang in his ears. The pride he felt went Hakuma told him to follow his own justice. How could Viktor toss those feelings away?

"If Pirates are doing crimes, we bring them in." Viktor said. "That's how it has been, and how it should be. But if a Pirate is only a Pirate because of someone else's crimes...are they guilty? Should we bring in their cabin boys for justice? They travelled with the Pirate, but they didn't do any crimes. But technically, they're still a Pirate. Thats why I think...our duty as Marines is to bring in those who do crimes. Thats as simple as it is. If someone hasn't done crimes, no matter what society calls them, they should not be brought in."

As the continued walking forwards, Viktor decided to add on one final statement. "Also, I think everyone's safety is important. That includes you, Ms. Three."

"Viktor, you must not show mercy to any pirate. You never know what they might develop into, no matter how innocent they might appear. Letting them go would mean letting a potential criminal back into the world, who has been heavily influenced by the greater pirates they have been traveling with. Because of this, it's best to not let any pirate go. No matter what."

Three had a very straightforward sense of justice, because of what Phoebe has told them, and programmed them with. Androids have a general understanding and the ability to develop thoughts on their own. It's what makes them different from a mere Pacifista. Their personalities and advanced thinking processes allow them to see things from many different angles, instead of just following a strict programming. The same reason why Three let Azrael get away. Step by step, Three was actually developing her own reasons and feelings.

"You won't need to worry about me, Viktor. My body is an advanced combination of graphene and various kinds of metal alloys, combined to make an incredibly durable body. According to Phoebe, I am a massive upgrade to my sisters Model 1 and Model 2 that preceded me. They have perished in battle because of a certain group of pirates called the Brawler Pirates... Pirates that Azrael assisted..."

Three was starting to show genuine anger and sorrow when she brought up Model 1 and Model 2. Three had been created shortly after they had perished, and made better in every possible way. But the fact that her sisters were essentially killed is what fuelled Three's deep hatred towards pirates. Not just the influence from Phoebe alone.

"The Brawler's are criminals though." Viktor began. "They went to that Kingdom, blew stuff up, and killed people. And they killed your, uh. Sisters. They deserve to be brought in. My point is that if there's someone like a Pirate's child, maybe. They shouldn't be brought in, cause they're a child and they haven't done anything wrong."

He paused for a while, unsure of how else to talk to Three. They had polar opposite beliefs when it came to justice, but he still wanted to be on her good side; a friend. "Also, about not worrying about you..." he said. "I can't not worry about a comrade. Giant's are ridiculously strong, so you could be in danger too. Marines have got to help Marines, ya know?"

The jungle was vast. It seemed that those who lived this island built their towns around this dense forest. Pushing its wilderness into a dense patch of green and brown. Vines hung from trees. Bushes shivered with a breath of wind. Its large trees blacked out the sun and sky above. Not that it helped for night slowly approached. A thick silence flowed throughout the forest. Only interrupted by the philosophical ramblings of Viktor and Three. But in between their exchanges, rumbles and grumbles of wildlife erupted from around them.

Stomp. Stomp. Growl

A massive shadow circled Viktor and Three. Its yellow eyes piercing the settling on its future meals. Each paw leaving a deep indent in the earth below. A soft growl as its back wiggled. Reorienting itself.

Three could've sensed something nearby, thanks to her electroreception ability. But considering the situation they were in, she just thought it was various animals that had no business with them. But, with the slowly approaching sounds of something bigger, Three immediately went into an alert state. Sensing the surrounding for movement, she quickly picked the nearby creatured, and steadily pointed at it with a finger. Not only indicating its direction, but also beginning to charge an attack.

"Hostile entity located. Large animal. We might be invading in its territory. Or it might be out to hunt us. Ferocious animals like that are a threat to the public. We must take it down at all cost."

Three assessed the situation. And she immediately thought about the innocent people that might be hurt or killed by large animals like this.

Viktor had spotted the beast to, but through different means. Was his conversation with his mentor...he tossed those thoughts aside. He instead had to focus on the threat ahead of him.

"How do we wanna do this? Lure it back in the forest and then strike?" Viktor asked. "Or should one of us get the civilians while the other fights?"

The massive beast continued its prowl. But its deepened rumbles seemed to attract something above. Rustling trees. A couple of them. Dancing from branch to branch. Swinging across vines. Where the shadow quietly sized its prey, its onlookers from above seemed to eagerly jump about in excitement. Was this a law of the jungle? Let the biggest animal take down its prey and a handful of scavengers pick off what's left? Still, the longer the duo spoke about it, the more commotion started around them. Until...

Silence.

The most dangerous thing of all in this situation. As shown by a thunderous roar accompanied by a massive panther launching out of the jungle's darkness. Its black fur almost allowing it to merge with settling darkness. Only its teeth visible in a flash as it went for Three. Swiping its massive paw down with enough force to crack the earth beneath it.

The power of a Zoan Devil Fruit. The sound of fabric ripping echoed throughout the forest, before being silenced by the foliage. Viktor's skin turned a crimson red, the scars on his body becoming a pale salmon colour. Black fur began to manifest across his body as orange-ish horns emerged from the sides of his head. This was Viktor's hybrid form, a 12 foot tall behemoth of a creature.

He cocked his fist back, sending a powerful uppercut towards the wrist of the incoming paw in aim to shatter the bone. Viktor aimed to bring the creature's attention to him, to draw it away from his comrade.

"Oh dear..."

Having stepped aside to avoid the attack of the animal, Three noticed that Viktor already transformed in order to fight it. Androids were smart enough to tell when something was the working of a devil fruit. The grand line was notorious for being the home of many devil fruits. Them being much more common here than anywhere in the blues. The power granted by them often being the reason why certain pirates and marines grow into fame. The androids were unable to eat them. But they didn't these powers, since they were instead blessed with the technology developed by Phoebe.

"Pura..."

With Three quietly uttering those words, she then got into a unique position. One leg straight and aimed forward, while the other one moved behind her body, making her lean to the side. Then, the foot of the other leg finally met the ground. Sparks of electricity emitting from the soles of the android's feet. Illuminating the floor with a brief flash, as her hand suddenly vanished, and was replaced with nothing but a blue smear of light, as she had deployed something which replaced her hand. And just like that, Three briefly vanished from sight...

TSCHI!! TSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCHTSCH!!

The sound of slashing echoed throughout the jungle, as the surrounding area was enveloped in a bright, blue light. When looking closely, one would see dozens upon dozens of floating, blue lines surround the large creature. But they weren't floating. Rather, they were the afterimage of the Plasma-Cutter that Three was utilizing for this attack. She was actually constantly spinning and somersaulting. That's what the pose from before was for. To have her enter a powerful jump that let her practically flail her own body around at great speed. Spinning with that deadly weapon deployed, and attacking the giant creature.

"...Sura."

Then, as quickly as it happened, it was already over. Three was now on the opposite of the creature, having landed gracefully on both of her feet. The bright flash vanished, as Three called back the Plasma-Cutter, and redeployed her hand once again. Countless slashes of this extremely potent weapon left the body of the panther to fall apart into hundreds upon hundreds of small, cube-shaped pieces. Every slash had cut through the animal with absolutely precision and speed. This was the strength of Phoebe's own developed fighting style, that she made sure to install into her best androids.

Three turned towards Viktor with the same, cold stare that she had before. As soon as the problem arrived, it was already dealt with. It took literal seconds for it to be over. The androids had no reason to hold back, since they naturally wanted to get their job over as swiftly as possible. And to make sure that the danger was dealt with completely, they wouldn't just stab a heart or cut off a head. No, Three literally eviscerate the creature completely with absolutely no mercy.

"Let's not lose focus because of any more animals. We came here because of a bigger threat. These animals aren't something we should be concerned about. Viktor, let's move onward."

The panther was sushi. Which scared the hell out of the surrounding animals who ran to safety. These two mysterious people weren't people to mess with.

Three approached Viktor after what she had just done. She looked casual, considering how the androids rarely changed their expression. For someone who might not be used to these androids, their mere pressence is something that's rather uncanny. But they aren't like this on purpose. They were simply made to be like this.

"Viktor, you must have been startled. I took out the threat as quickly and as efficently as possible. Logically, cutting up a creature like this into hundreds of pieces, where there can no longer be signals sent from the brain to the nerves, is the most effective method of taking out a threat."

As Three walked up to him, she casually reached forward with her hand and grabbed his. Three assumed that he was scared, and her installed instict told her to comfort him, while still continuing onward with their job. Now heading forward, hand in hand.

"I am no threat to you. Remember that, Viktor. Even if you don't think highly of my creator, there is no reason for you to fear me. Because I am my own being."

Viktor reverted back into his human form as Three grasped onto his hand, and continued to walk forwards. Viktor was unsure of what to say or to do, scared that he would offend Three. So instead, Viktor chose to say nothing in relations to Three holding his hand.

But the words she spoke after struck a chord with him. He smiled at Three. "You are your own being, aren't you?" he asked, being rhetorical. "Thank you, Three. I won't fear you."

As they continued to walk forwards, Viktor couldn't help but feel more relaxed. His smile widened.

The forest seemed to obey the power of their friendship. Animals backing off from further interruption also because that little girl somehow managed to chop their king into pieces. Instead, once they passed the jungle clearing, scavengers and other predators stole the panther's meat for future meals. A good distraction which allowed Viktor and Three to continue on.

However, their moment of peace was soon interrupted with a thunderous laughter. One which shook the jungle to its very core. From a thick bush, one would see a throne carved out of rock sticking out of the massive mountain at the center of this island. And on it sat a giant. A rare species among Paradise waves. His face hardened with battle experience and a body covered in muscles. Surrounded him were hundreds of guards. Some stood by his side. Others carried loot into a nearby cave. A few bowed before this giant. Listening intently to his orders.

"How much gold is left?!" Athos asked.

"Not much sir. The mines have been almost cleared."

"Hahahahah! No one would've thought that this boring island sat atop one of Paradise's goldmines! Crazy that you fools never took advantage of it. You'd be tha richest kingdom."

"S-sir...i-if I may...these jungles are sacred to our people. O-our gods promised to protect us as long as we leave the gold. WE SWORE TO NEVER DISTURB IT. With t-the d-deal broken...who knows what misfortune may befall our island."

"Oh. Gods? Misfortune! Fairy tales. The only gods int his world is money and power." Athos boomed. Picking up his foot, he slammed it down on the man. Squashing him beneath the giant's massive leg. "SEE NO POWER TO PICK ME UP AND NO MONEY TO PAY ME FOR YOUR LIFE AHAHAHAH WHERE ARE YOUR GODS NOW." Athos screamed. Eventually erupting into a massive laughter. The guards could only watch in a mixture of shame and anger.

"Crap!" Viktor mumbled as they were able to spot the Giant man. Viktor's eyes began to scan the vicinity, trying to make out anything he could use to help him out during the raid. He had to do something now, Viktor wouldn't stand by as this warrior belittled those around him. As he treated them as nothing but the dirt beneath his shoes.

Viktor turned to Three, taking in a quiet breath. "Three," he began. "I need you to find Captain Azrael and Captain Benjamin. Lead them back here, please. You're faster than me, so it'll be easier. I'll stall Athos for now, and try and hold out until they show. I can't stand here and watch people get treated so poorly. I need to step in now."

Do You Have a Moment?[]

The town was rather quiet. Azrael smelled the intoxicating fear that permeated from the streets like an evening supper after a day of work. Others often asked why Azrael would close his eyes and just walk throughout the island's he visited. But they couldn't understand. Or better yet, Azrael could never actually describe the orgasmic scent of life. The emotions that mingled with this universal breath. It was his nourishment. He didn't even remember his time as a human. Just a being that went around and sucked the life of those around him. Absorbing their years. Their youth. Making it his own.

But this island didn't smell as good as others. No. Fear had a tangy scent to it. A restrained pull that might be the greatest thing ever eaten or the worst. It reminded him of an avocado. Why is everyone so afraid? Azrael asked to himself. He saw people watching the newcomers walk throughout the town.

Even without their uniform, two newcomers suddenly appearing is never a good sign. Small islands like these often mean everyone is in each others business. Everyone knows one another. Newcomers are either pirates or marines. And trouble all around.

"Why do you think a commander of the Ghost Pirates would set up shop here?" Azrael asked Benjamin.

Benjamin looked at Azrael out of the corner of his eye as they went along. He had seen that face before. The face of a man who could barely contain his own appetite. He wasn't sure if Azrael knew that Benjamin knew of his plight, that the only thing holding him back was his morality. His ability to keep himself in check was the one thing Benjamin respected him for.

"Probably needed someplace to set up shop," said Benjamin in the same monotone voice he normally used. He didn't want to let Azrael in on what he was thinking. Finding out that Benjamin respected him even a little would definitely hurt his reputation. "Pirates like to take small territories like this one so that they can expand their territory. A lot of 'em think they're gonna be the next Yonko. It's like what happened in Cairo with the Everything Pirates. Except these guys were smarter, they at least tried to keep their actions under wraps instead of declaring it to the world."

"Those Everything Pirates." Azrael thought to himself. "That Avery guy isn't the sharpest tool in the bunch. Still shocks me that he was able to put you in the hospital." Azrael teased. But his jest was masking thought. They were one of the few new age troublemakers he hadn't crossed paths with. To take over an entire kingdom...something that even that troublesome brawler captain hadn't even tried. But Benjamin is right. Pirates like to act like Yonkos. take over kingdoms and islands in hopes of establishing a miniature territory. And what better way to do it then to send a fucking Giant over?

The thought of Viktor and Three, yes Three, facing that Giant made Azrael's stomach twist. He hoped that Viktor learned patience from the old man. They needed intelligence to take him down. Not that transportation will be an issue. Surely Catherine will understand the real reason Azrael left her behind. But to defeat a Giant? Would the four of them be enough? Can Azrael even trust Three not to trip him when the Giant's foot is coming down?!

"Hopefully taking this island back will mess up their foundation. And capturing that Giant'll scare anyone else trying anything."

Azrael's nose wrinkled. A distinct smell. "Benjamin, follow me!" Azrael ran towards a nearby house. A rather large building of several stories. The marine captain looked both ways before knocking on the door.

A little girl opened the door. Followed by an older woman, her mother, jumping to stop it. Leaving only their face revealed.

"Hello what would you like? Please make it quick, we don't want any trouble with the guards."

"Sorry," said Benjamin, actually showing a hint of emotion in his voice and face for, "but it seems we lost track of time and ended up staying out past curfew. Our homes are on the other side of the island, and I don't think we'll make it all the way there if we don't find someplace to hunker down for the night. May we stay here, at least for now? We'll be out of your hair as soon as the sun rises."

"What he said!" Azrael cosigned. The older woman eyed the visitor. He could feel the distrust. Pirate overrun island and two random people show up knocking at her door. Asking if they can crash because they mistimed their evening stroll? Azrael would roll his eyes if he could. Though perhaps this might be his fault. After all, he didn't give Benjamin enough time to come up with something good.

"And we'd be horrible guest if not for a little present." Azrael pulled out a bag of beli from his pocket. Azrael grinned. Hoping that Benjamin wouldn't notice his pocket being a little bit lighter. The woman's face exploded with glee! She opened the door and took the bag. While her daughter lead both the marines into the living area.

"Please have a seat. I'll grab some tea and dinner. I hope you two don't mind the guest room."

"Of course not!"

“Thank you got your hospitality.” As soon as the woman and her daughter were facing away from them, Benjamin grabbed Azrael by the collar and pulled his ear to his mouth. “You owe me a sac of beli after this operation.” He let him go and propped him back up straight before the woman turned back to them. “It feels like it’s been forever since we were last allowed outside late at night. How long has it been anyways?”

Azrael felt his spine shiver. Dammit! Well that's if Benjamin could catch him.

"It seems like forever." The old woman answered. Her daughter sat on the edge of a nearby chair. The mother poured two cups of tea and placed a rather large plate of seafarer treats. Azrael could smell dinner being prepared. "But alas, several months can feel like eternity when a pirate is in charge of the island."

"A pirate? I thought that the new king took over after king...uhhhh...ummm.." Azrael snapped his finger. Yeah, he wasn't as good at this as Benjamin.

"King Silva!" The little girl jumped in. "How can you forget our last king? Daddy says that he was a great man."

"He sure was." The woman interrupted, rubbing her daughter's hair. "But this new king is a coward. Handed this island right over to a pirate."

"Yes," said Benjamin, "it's truly a shame that the new king was so spineless. My job used to be near the castle, but because of the new rules I haven't been able to get near my old job. It just seems like there's so many guards. I stopped even going by."

"Yeah. My husband is the new guard captain." The women sighed. "He used to be a lieutenant...But when the new king came by, he killed all the previous guards. Didn't want any chance of a usurp."

Azrael's nose wrinkled. The little girl...she smelt of sadness As if lost pulled at her heart. A sulfur-like wisp. "Is everything okay?"

The mother looked at the girl and smiled. Rubbing her shoulders lightly. "Sorry...My husband...her father's older brother was one of the captains. She was really close to her uncle."

"I-i'm afraid they're gonna do the same thing to daddy." The girl mustered out. "A-and..n-no one will help him."

Benjamin walked over to the little girl. His lips curled into a smile, another thing that wasn't a part of his character, unknown to those in the house, yet it was still heartwarming and comforting nonetheless. "Don't worry little one, I'm certain nothing bad will happen to your father."

"Yeah, that guy is a fortuneteller!" Azrael blurted with a warm smile himself.

"Thank you." The little girl grabbed onto Benjamin. "Who are you guys anyway?"

Oh yeah! The two strangers come barging in and don't introduce themselves. Azrael could see Hakuma fainting at the lack of common decency.

"My name is," Azrael's eyes darted. "Longtable Woodbottom. And this is my partner,"

"Bridgeman Bideford," said Benjamin. He shot Azrael a look of utter disappointment before turning back to the woman and child. "Thank you for your hospitality.

Bridgeman Bideford?! Azrael tried his hardest not to laugh. Covering an outburst in a quick cough.

"Well Mr. Bideford, my name is Izuka. And this here is little Saru." The mother spoke. Izuka grabbed several plates and brought them to the table. Each filled with a perfect mixture of rice, veggies and chicken.

Azrael didn't need to eat. He could always feed on the brilliant, indescribable, orgasmic life of those around him. But...such a meal had its own merit. It smelled absolutely fantastic. And without restraint, Azrael grabbed a plate and started to wolf it down.

"So...Ms. Izuka..." Azrael made out betwixt giant spoonfuls. "Do..you...think..the..world..government...will...do..anything?"

A stupid question perhaps? But Azrael had his reasons. He needed to see if the islanders were showing the beginning signs of Stockholm Syndrome.

"I-" Izuka's eyes wandered off. Small tears forming at the corners. "I'm sure that they are doing their best-"

"My daddy said that the World Government are cowards! They won't bother with this island because we aren't worth their time!" Saru screamed, still holding onto Benjamin tightly. "I hate them-"

"Saru-" Izuka glared. But the little girl faced away. Digging deeper into her new savior. "I'm sorry. She overheard some of the guards talking. To be honest, none of us are too happy about what's going on...But we must make do whatever we can to survive."

"That is true. But is it really living if you're forced into the confines of your home?: Azrael asked.

Azrael looked at Benjamin.

As Saru held onto him, Benjamin gingerly stroked her hair, the softness and comfort of his touch in great contrast to his ordinarily dense skin. "I won't hold my breath that the World Government would arrive at a later date, but I'm certain someone will arrive soon to free us from this terrible situation. These pirates will not rule this land forever."

Izuka's eyes melted watching Bridgeman stroke her child's hair. Azrael noticed her eye quickly dart when their gaze met. He smelt it alright. But regardless, they needed to obtain information. And what better chance than the family of a guard captain.

"Yeah," He interrupted. "and besides I noticed your father's spear above the fireplace. I'm sure he'll save the day. Are there a lot of guards that feel like you do?"

"Of course. But they will serve because it put foods on their family's table. Just like my husband. Though I wouldn't be shocked if that new king didn't put his favorite guards in closer positions."

Benjamin shot Azrael another look. Not one of annoyance this time. The glance was practically telling him, “Hopefully, that will make this easier. Anything else you think we need to know?” He didn’t want to risk the citizens learning too much about them. Everyone would be safer that way.

Of course there would be more people willing to submit themselves. But Azrael expected it. He met Benjamin's gaze and smirked. They'd been on more than enough missions together. The marine captain looked up.

"Thank you so much for everything Ms. Izuka. And Ms Saru," Azrael turned his attention to the daughter. "Please do not worry. Everything will be okay. What's your father's name?" The daughter nodded.

"Osako."

"I will say a prayer for him before bed tonight. But you have to as well. We'll double up!" Azrael said with a giant smile which turned into a yawn. He stretched his body far back. "Well we better get to bed Bridgeman. We have an early morning."

"Oh allow us. Our guest room is currently being used by my..brother in laws widow. She hasn't been able to go outside since this whole fiasco. But please, this living room is yours." Izuka offered.

"Thank you." Azrael bowed as the mother and daughter went upstairs. He waited several minutes to hear the doors close.

"Sooooo Bridgeman. Are we cuddling orrrr?"

Once again, Benjamin shot Azrael a glance, with so many words behind it, this time saying, “Why would you even ask that?” As he got up and walked over to the couch. “You’re sleeping on the floor.”

"O-oh so we're actually sleeping here?" Azrael asked scratching the back of his head. "And why do I have to sleep on the floor!?" He crossed his arms before jumping on the floor. Sitting crossed armed.

"Should we sneak out and have a look around the island? Or wait till the morning?"

Benjamin laid down on the couch, pulling a blanket over his body. “We’ll wait until the family’s asleep. It’ll be easier to sneak out then. In the meantime, I’m going to get some rest.”

Following a couple minutes after she had just taken care of a small group of guards without trying to hurt them too much, Hanako went on her merry way to search for more information, and find out just what was actually going on on this island. Plus, she had to find out just where all the treasure was hidden. In the end, that is what she actually came for. Bring home some treasure to show off to her crew, and to impress her father!

She was following the voices of the people. She didn't actually know much about the place where she had found herself. Plus, it's not like she could go on the entire night without getting some energy. She also needed some sleep, and food as well. Thankfully, since she was just a little girl, most people were really kind to her. Hanako doesn't mean harm to anyone, and only really attacks when she has to defend herself.

Going after the voices and the still active lights, she eventually found herself on the roof of a tall building with multiple stories. This might be a good place to try and some food, and maybe even sleep. It just depended on how well she could use the natural charme. Hanako wasn't shy of playing extra cute to get what she wanted from strangers. Preparing herself to jump off to the next roof, Hanako got into pos-- Whoop

As Hanako stepped forward, she just happened to step onto a brittle spot of the roof. And an unfortunate spot at that, because it was the part that hung just above the ground. Causing the piece of roof to fall down, and for Hanako to lose her footing. In the state of surprise, she didn't even consider using her devil fruit powers to save herself! And thus she slipped and fell off the roof.

"eeeeEEEEEEEeeeeee....."

Could be heard from outside the window as her high-pitched screaming passed the first few windows.

"....eeeeEEEEEEEHH!"

CRAAASH! Rumblerumblerumble... CRACK! SPLOOOOSH!

Hanako fell down onto some barrels filled with some kind of alcoholic beverage. The smell of it was quite pungent, and would most certainly stick to her skin. Breaking the barrels entirely and causing quite a bit of damage by pure accident! It was not unusual for her father to get into strange and unlucky situations.

But he had gotten so used to it, that she knew how to use his bad luck to his advantage. Hanako wasn't quite as experienced in utilizing her own misfortune. Now her clothes were soaked, and she reeked of alcohol. Plus, she destroyed someone's barrels and made a bunch of annoying noise. How is she supposed to act put on an act now?

Benjamin's eyes fluttered open as he picked up on the sound, immediately moving into an upright position. "Did you hear that?" he asked Azrael. Not waiting for an answer, Benjamin quickly hopped off of the couch and out of the blankets he was in before, running over to the door. He looked back into the room to check on Azrael.

"Benji, it's just a bad dream."

Azrael opened his eyes and fell back to sleep. Rolling over to ignore his partner. But something stunk...bad. His nose was always picking up strange scents. And in this constant form, he possessed a superb sense of smell. Not only that, the little screech of a falling girl is hard for someone with the hearing of a bat to ignore. Hell, Azrael's massive ears could pick up heartbeats when things are quiet. Too bad things are rarely quiet.

He begrudgingly stood up and made his way to Benjamin. Nodding at the fellow captain to head outside. Surely this family's kindness would run out at any trouble waking them up. Plus, Saru already said her prayers. Waking up after praying might cancel it. Azrael left the building and took a turn to towards the source of the sound. He pulled out a cigar and lit it with a lighter from his back pocket. A fresh smoke after waking up is so rejuvenating! Except when a little girl suddenly falling from the roof is the cause.

He took a pull before turning the corner. Azrael felt like her every time he smoked. It kept him calm. Just like she did before they started a mission. He didn't know what was going to be around this corner. But cigar helped keep his nerves tamed. To think that it would be a little girl in a barrel! Azrael tilted his head.

"Well well well." He started. "This island has a curfew...So I'm guessing your parents are going to be pissed off." Azrael breathed out a cloud of smoke. But he didn't offer to help the girl out the barrel. "Why're you out here causing all this trouble anyway?"

Benjamin walked up behind Azrael, his eyes darting around the area, more wary of the idea of them getting caught, and prepared to fight if necessary. But then, all of that suddenly melted upon seeing the young girl sitting in a barrel, covered in alcohol. He could tell from just looking at her that it was all an accident. He pushed Azrael out of the way as he ran over to her, pulling her out of the barrel and placing her safely on the ground. "Are you alright little one?"

Considering what just happened, there were many unsuspected things. The fact that people actually noticed her and came to check was unexpected. However, what was unexpected was the kind of people that came to check on her. Two men who looked a lot more different than most of the people that lived on this island. There was no possible way that these two actually live here. Rather, they must be making a stop here or something.

Thanks to her outfit, her face and actual appearance was well hidden. Her father had told her how she now had a rather impressive bounty, especially for someone her age. And since she is a child, people might consider her an easy target. Meaning what wherever she went, her safety is never guaranteed. Which is why she has started to disguise herself with uncharacteristic clothing. Hanako's eyes met with those of the man who looked like he was already done with life several times over.

"I am fine, thank you. This was an accident, I swear! I feel fro-- I tripped over a rock and fell into the barrels. I am not quite sure how I landed in one of them though! It's quite peculiar... Sorry if I disturbed or startled you, I really didn't mean it! My parents are... Out on the sea. I am currently all alone! And recently a lot of bad people have arrived, and because of this, I don't have a place where I am truly save! I am also hungry, and now I am dirty too! This day just keep getting worse and worse..."

Hanako greatly exaggerated her situation, while also telling a bunch of lies. Right now, she was in a genuienly uncomfortable situation however. Two strangers who probably don't even live here were the first people to act. Hanako couldn't quite put the pieces together though, and thus she just assumed they must be some kind of visitors. And, considering the current situation, it is certainly not a good time to visit.

Benjamin turned to Azrael, speaking softly into his ear so that the girl before them wouldn't be able to hear. "We can't just leave her out. The guards might come by and try to arrest her."

Azrael clocked his head. The marine captain had a unique sense of smell. One that allowed him to understand beyond the physical world...But with her drenched in all this alcohol his nose was trying not to trigger his nausea. So instead he looked at Benjamin. "Look at you actually caring about someone." He teased. "Though I doubt we can bring her back to that woman's house." He thought for a second and looked around.

Ding!

"There's no one home. Probably a seaman's house. I'm sure he won't mind us using it as a base of operations. Plus when the other two get back, it'll be a good place to plan our next move." He looked at a nearby house and nodded in its direction. "Little one you can come with us until the time being. My name's Azrael, this is Benjamin." He said...clearly forgetting the code-names.

"Really?! You'll help me? Oh, you don't know how grateful I am! In these trying times, it's great to have someone by your side! You never know what might happen! Normally I am not supposed to trust strangers, but these guards are way too dangerous! When one of them saw me, they... I mean, one of them grabbed me, and threw me away like I was just a piece of trash! That's how i landed here."

Hanako was constantly thinking about new lies to use in order to explain her situation. Even though these men seemed trustworthy, she still has to be careful about who she tries to get help from. Because in the end, she was now an officially recognized and wanted pirate. Though she was no big name rookie. But she was the daughter of the captain of an infamous pirate crew that had existed as long as she is old.

She moved in between the two of them, like she was actively trying to seek shelter from the both of them. Seeming as innocent as she could, despite the outfit she wore. She looked more like a theif than a lost, little girl.

"It's nice to meet the both of you! My name is Hana.... Hana! Say, i've been living here for a while now, but I don't recognize the both of you. Are you visitors? Travelers? PIRATES?! Either way, this place has become rather troublesome. You should honestly be careful."

As they began walking to the hut, Benjamin reached out his hand Hana, flashing her a warm smile. His teeth seemed to glisten in the light of the moon. "I could say the same thing about you little one. I'd remember seeing someone as eccentric-looking as you, given how long I've been living here."

Azrael was a bit reluctant to help. He let his partner take the lead on this situation. Eyeing the girl with a bit of a hard glare. She's lying. Not that Azrael could tell off anything useful like the tone of her voice. No. In a flash that came from the wind blowing, a wisp radiated from Hanako which caught him off guard. However it vanished as quickly as it came after being overwhelmed by alcohol once more.

He followed behind Benjamin and Hana as they made their way to the house Azrael mentioned. Keeping his nose sharp to make sure that no one would approach them. People moved but in their homes. And islanders moving from house to house were far and few between. When they finally made it to the abandoned building, Azrael used his nail to pick the lock.

"The others should be back soon." Azrael offered.

Hanako felt a bit uneasy when the man with the white hair said that he'd been living her for a long time. Considering how Hanako hasn't been here for long. And sure, while she was somewhat disguised, she still looked incredibly noticeable and distinct when compared to other people. Especially other children her age. Thus she immediately got nervous the moment he said it. But, Hanako didn't respond. Instead, she just gave him a wide grin like nothing was wrong.

She didn't quite know just what she should think of these people yet. They were total strangers to her. But, she has seen most of the other people on the island already. And the kind of clothes they wore. These two looked... Professional. Making Hanako think twice about staying with these two. There must be something about them that sets them appart.

"Are you sure that we should just go in like this? I mean, what if they come back and see me? Not that I have anything to hide. Just... To take it into consideration! I wouldn't want to steal anything though! If i were to steal something, then i'd definetly steal something from the big guy that overthrown this whole place! Not that i was planning on that though, i'm just a girl!"

Hanako continued to dig her hole deeper and deeper. Hanako was prone to being quite oblivious. But even then, she still had some smarts. While she could deduce that these two were definetly something else, her obliviousness made it so that she just actively kept making it worse. She knows that a bounty has been placed on her head. But the picture they used was still of her old appearance. She changed her overall style a lot since then. Besides, the only thing that would make her distinct enough are her... white eyes.

Hanako closed her eyes.

"What're you doing, kid?" said Benjamin with... a slight chuckle? That was weird. "You can't see where you're going if you keep your eyes closed. It's already dark enough." He took the young girl's hand as he led her to the shack. "You certainly seem to ramble quite a bit, but be careful about that. A loose tongue can get you into danger in a place like this."

Azrael tilted his head. This girl appeared super nervous for some reason. Benjamin kept busy..But Azrael thought her quite weird. Still, he followed the duo into the house and lit a torch with his marine issued lighter, illuminating the overall house after tending to following torches. He then sat down on a couch near Benjamin and Hanako. This house definitely belonged to a fisherman. Spacious with an ocean view. Several couches and a bed off in a nearby room.

"Crazy that this place is so dangerous." Azrael said with a slight sigh. "Although stealing from that big guy would be quite fun." Azrael said with a slight chuckle. He leaned in with a keen eye. Surely she might have some information to give them since she lived on this island for quite some time. "You seem like a little troublemaker. Have you been to the pirate's base?"
