Gerongians is an article written by Black Dwarf Star.

Gerongians are a race in the world. The majority of Gerongians are native to Gerong Island.

Appearance[]

Gerongians are near-indistinguishable from ordinary humans, save for their razor-sharp teeth. The sharp teeth of Gerongians are normally more pronounced amongst the male population than the female. Other common traits amongst Gerongians include lime green eyes and tanned skin, although recessive traits often appear, giving Gerongians more varied appearances. Originally, all Gerongians had fiery, red hair and eyes, but this changed after Gerongians and Komodo dragons began to live together peacefully.[3]

Biology[]

Gerongians are near-indistinguishable from humans, but have adapted to live in warmer climates off of a primarily carnivorous diet. Their teeth are razor-sharp, better for tearing flesh from bone. In addition, their body temperatures are much greater than average, so much so that it actually eliminates pathogens as they enter their body, including the highly virile Red virus. They are even capable of absorbing heat to further increase their body temperatures, although there is a limit to how much one can take.[4]

Reproduction[]

Gerongians have a unique reproductive ability amongst mammals; they are capable of reproducing via parthenogenesis. This means that Gerongians are capable of reproducing asexually, without fertilized eggs. Even amongst parthenogenetic species, Gerongians are unique, as their Lineage Factor is still altered in comparison to the mother's, allowing for genetic diversity amongst their offspring. However, Gerongians can only produce male offspring via parthenogenesis. Normal sexual reproduction is still possible amongst Gerongians and parthenogenetic reproduction is only preformed in rare circumstances.[5]

Overall Strength[]

Upon birth, Gerongians are twice as strong as ordinary humans, although this level drastically increases the older and more powerful Gerongians get. Gerongians are known for being very spiritual, and because of this, often unlock the ability to use Haki at a young age. Gerongian Haki is generally described as calm, matching their more laid-back attitudes. Due to their high exposure to Komodo dragon venom throughout the centuries of their coexistence, Gerongians have also developed an immunity to lizard-based venom.[6] While it is not an often used or talked about ability, Gerongians are also known to be strong swimmers, although not on the level of Fish-Men.[7]

Blood Rage[]

When Gerongians are angered or upset, their eyes turn red, with both their physical power and Haki increasing immensely. This is known as a Blood Rage (血の激怒 Chi no Gekido). This is hard to accomplish, considering the generally laidback and amicable personality of most Gerongians, and even then, can only be maintained as long as the Gerongian is angry. Their eyes return to normal, and thus their boost disappears, after a few minutes. In this state, Gerongian Haki is described as being wholly malicious and filled with bloodlust.[6] A controlled Blood Rage is possible, but is very difficult. The only known Gerongian to have activated a Blood Rage and effectively controlled it is Bulls Zy, who is ironically known for her much more aggressive personality.[8]

Some Gerongians are capable of reaching an enhanced state of their Blood Rage, activated when their rage boils over and they reach a point of serenity. The transformation, in addition to turning the Gerongians' eyes red, turns their hair red as well. This increases their power significantly.[9] This is actually the true form of the Gerongians, one lost to many after years of friendship and tranquility with Komodo dragons, reducing the rage in the general population that prevents most from ever attaining this form.[3]

Power of the Dragon's Spirit[]

Further information: Power of the Dragon's Spirit

The Power of the Dragon's Spirit is a martial art learned by all Gerongians. It allows them to channel their abnormally high body temperature into heat for offensive purposes. Not only are they capable of using this skill to simply cover their body in heat to increase the damage produced from their blows, but they are also capable of projecting heat from their body as either flames or kinetic force, generating columns of flames or transferring heat into other objects.[10]

As a side effect, the body heat of the user decreases the longer they use this ability, until it eventually decreases to the body temperature of a normal human. Their body heat can increase once again by sunbathing, or simply not using this fighting style for a long period of time. Skilled Gerongians are capable of mitigating this weakness, allowing them to fight at their best for longer periods of time. Gerongians also display a high resistance to a majority of heat-based techniques, as the heat only serves to increase their power from them absorbing it. There are some limitations on this heat absorption, but it takes an immense quantity of heat, and no way to offload it, in order for a Gerongian to become overwhelmed.[11]

While capable of absorbing heat rather quickly, this ability is enhanced even further, both in capacity and the quickness in which a Gerongian can absorb heat, upon entering a Blood Rage. A Gerongian that enters an enhanced Blood Rage, such as Bulls Zy, also becomes capable of absorbing heat indirectly into their attacks, allowing them to at least somewhat bypass their weaknesses.[9]

Inter-species Relationships[]

Gerongian males are valued at Beli800,000 as slaves on the Black Market. Females are valued at Beli1,500,000 due to their parthenogenetic reproductive capabilities.

A small cadre of Gerongians live on Totto Land instead of their homeland in Gerong Island.

Gerongians generally live isolated in their homeland due to the belief amongst humans that Gerongians are man-eating beasts wearing human skin, or are otherwise incredibly aggressive. This basis generally comes from Gerongians who have historically activated Blood Rages. Most notably, however, were the actions of three Gerongians, including Berbisa, that performed actions so evil and heinous that they were banished from Gerong Island. As such, whenever a Gerongian does leave the island, they tend to cover their mouths to hide their teeth, to both integrate into everyday society and avoid slave traffickers.[12][9] Gerongians on Gerong Island are so cut off from the outside world that they only receive a monthly News Coo to apprise themselves of global events.[13]

A few Gerongians have left the island for long periods of time, including the current holder of the Toka Toka no Mi, Model: Komodo Dragon, Varanus Fang. He managed to become a commodore of the Marines, without his secret getting out, but resigned from his position before his cannibalistic tendencies could become public knowledge.[5] Most other Gerongians that leave the main island become either pirates or revolutionaries, as their race is generally looked upon as savages and wouldn't be accepted within the ranks of the World Government. However, one Gerongian, Bulls Zy, managed to join CP-0 and even become a bodyguard of the World Noble and Shichibukai, Benjamin Tabart.

Beliefs[]

Gerongians are very spiritual and in touch with nature, which is how they ordinarily unlock Haki naturally as opposed to being trained in its usage. Their general belief system focuses around the Komodo dragon, revering the creatures as equal beings created by the god, Gerong with the purpose of making friendly pairs with corresponding Gerongians. Each Gerongian is known to be accompanied by at least one Komodo dragon. Likely stemming from their love of Komodo dragons, Gerongians have a large degree of reverence for the Toka Toka no Mi, Model: Komodo Dragon and its user, the original user of which used the power to unite the Komodo dragons and Gerongians in the first place. Even Gerongians that live outside of Gerong Island have great revere for the user of the fruit, with the user themselves often holding a high degree of political power in Gerongian culture. Out of respect to the fruit and its user, they even refuse to eat other Devil Fruits. Gerongians that are unfamiliar with Devil Fruits refer to this fruit, as well others, as "Blessings from Gerong". Likewise, they also refer to Devil Fruit users as being "Blessed".[14][15]

Gerongians are largely carnivorous, eating almost every form of meat they can catch. However, they will still eat berries and other fruits they get their hands on, with some even growing their own crops.[16] Gerongians appear to be very anal when it comes to wasting material, taking every opportunity to use whatever they make or catch. This even stems to their deceased comrades (and Komodo dragons), which they will either eat or use as fertilizer.[1][17] As such, they generally avoid overhunting or over-harvesting, only having enough of what they need to thrive if worst comes to worst. When it comes to taking the life of an animal, all Gerongians seem to make a sort go prayer, saying that they will "become one with Gerong" and "become one with each other", showing a more spiritual desire to avoid waste as opposed to it just being a personality trait.[14] Towards the end of the month, Gerongians will have a "Feeding Festival", where they will eat the leftover rations from that month before they can spoil.

Gerongians are known to be incredibly communal, with a rotating schedule of who participates in hunting and farming. A common greeting for Gerongians is even to give a brief, yet strong, hug, as a way of exchanging body and reinvigorate tired workers. Every night, the entire colony of Gerongians will gather together and eat the day's food at a fire pit. It is known that being banished from Gerong Island is the greatest punishment one can receive, as that Gerongian would be forced out from their community.[9][14]

Gerongian children are known to be incredibly easy to raise, as they rarely act out due to their laidback personality type. Although, there are some exceptions.
