The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Angel is a Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. It is currently used by Phim D. Sera.
Etymology[]
- "Hito" (人?) is Japanese for "human".
- An angel is usually considered a servant of god in Christianity and Judaism, they are commonly considered as messengers or otherwise supernatural beings who act in YHWH's name.
- The kanji written for the "Angel" is read as "Tenshi" (天使 Tenshi?), meaning "Heaven's Messenger".
Appearance[]
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Angel is a ring-shaped fruit that looks like it is made of gold. it is around eight inches from tip to tip, making roughly the same size as most devil fruits. The inside of the fruit is a yellow mush that smells sickly sweet. The skin itself is soft and tender. According to Phim D. Sera, it tasted like a rotten banana when she ate it.
Strengths and Weaknesses[]
The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Angel is categorized among what is theoretically the rarest of fruits, a Mythical Zoan. As such the powers it bestows upon the user are equally as great. It grants the user the powers of the Angels above, turning them into an Angelic Human.
While granting a transformation into the creature in question like most Zoans, Mythical Zoans are special in the regards that they also grant the user a supernatural ability in addition to the transformation. In the case of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Angel the ability that is granted by the fruit is the ability to generate and manipulate holy energy.
While the current user, Phim D. Sera, has never shown her full transformation she has utilized the partial transformation extensively. The partial transformation grants the wings of an angel as well as a halo. These wings can not only be used to fly but are dexterous and strong enough to be used as additional limbs. A user can even walk on them if need be, using them as the limbs of a spider or something similar. These wings can also be hardened, and have shown the ability to launch hardened feathers with enough force to act like bullets. Sera has shown the ability to manifest far more than the two wings that low-level angels have been depicted to have, having manifested up to thirteen wings at one time. With each wing, her standing among the choirs of heaven also increases, leading to her physical abilities becoming further enhanced. According to Sera, each wing doubles her base form power. This leads to her being twice as strong as her untransformed state at two wings to thirteen times as strong at thirteen wings. Several of her crew-mates and friends have theorized that there is more to her transformation than meets the eye, but Sera has never shown anything further.
The full transformation of the fruit has never been shown, but Sera has mentioned she finds it disorienting and prefers not to use it.
The flames that the Angel fruit generates may look like an oddly colored fire, but in terms of properties are completely different. As noted in her fight with Ogre, Sera's fire is not hot. It is generally lukewarm at best. What makes it unique is that it doesn't burn, it purifies. This fire removes impurities from the world, freeing people from corruption, pestilence, and evil. Diseases, poisons, parasites, curses, and corruptions will find themselves burned off by the flames, meaning without haki protection she is capable of curing almost any malady suffered by those around her. This even includes things potent enough to be a disaster, such as a poison produced by one of the Yonko. They are capable of doing this without harming those inflicted by them, and were even gentle enough to those that have not drawn it's ire that a flower caught in an explosion of the Angel's Flames was unharmed.
Due to the constant presence of the flames produced by this fruit within the user's body, they are noted to be all but immune to the sort of conditions listed above, as the flames will burn them off before they can cause any damage to the fruit's host.
The flames are also noted to burn the unrighteous, albeit they do not seem to be as potent at erasing evil people from the world. The impact of the flame is unreduced, however it doesn't seem to burn away the target at anywhere near the rate that it removes impurities from the world. Though it can leave a target with severe burns across much of their body, as noted by Ogre in their fight.
While originally it seemed that a lack of air or the presence of water would dampen these flames, later on Sera revealed that it was her assumption that the flames should not exist in such a condition that caused it to happen, and the flames no longer show that weakness. Sera has noted that she does require some level of concentration to maintain the flames, but it is unknown just how strict this requirement is.
The fruit seems to only suffer from the standard devil fruit weaknesses with some exceptions, it appears that some things may be immune to the user's flames, though what causes this is currently unknown.
Techniques[]
Downy Series
The Downy Series of techniques that Sera has developed for fighting utilizes her wings to wrap around her limbs, enhancing the power of her blows significantly. The naming scheme of these techniques is based on medieval weaponry. Techniques utilizing her arms are generally named after swords, while techniques named after axes are utilized by her legs. The only hammer themed attack seen so far is denoted by her jumping prior to the attack.
By 1580, it seems that in more serious fights Sera has mostly phased out the usage of these techniques, at least against stronger opponents.
- Downy Short Sword: A swift punch launched from short-range after her arm was wrapped in a wing. Even with only a glancing hit, this blunt strike was capable of cutting the side of her target.
- Downy Flamberge: A devastating hammer punch, this punch was capable of cracking the floor after Sera hit the tyrannical King of Alnora in the head with it, sending him slamming into the ground[1].
- Downy Great Maul: A devastating Axe Kick that is proceeded by Sera somersaulting through the air to bring her wing covered foot down upon her target's head. Its effectiveness is unknown due to it being interrupted by Longdagger living up to his name.
- Downy Hand Axe: A swift kick is delivered after Sera sweeps down low towards the opponent. Even when unenhanced by her wings, the kick rocked back a heavily armoured opponent. It was first used against Sir Clarent.
- Downy Battleaxe: A high-speed straight kick delivered straight to an opponent's centre of mass. It was capable of sending a heavily armoured and powerful knight back several meters despite him guarding against it. It was first used against Sir Clarent.
- Downy Bardiche: Utilizing her acrobatic prowess, this technique involves Sera dodging an opponent's strike by the barest margins possible before twisting herself to bring down her leg into a debilitating axe kick to the back of an opponent's neck. Sera expressed confidence that it could knock out Ogre, however by twisting in mid air he managed to negate the attack with a block from his leg.
Burning Series
The Burning Series of techniques that Sera has developed for fighting is based around her augmenting her attacks with holy fire. This is achieved by first wrapping her wings around the limb in question for the attack followed by wrapping that in fire. They have shown significantly more power than the Downy Series, and also have a tendency to leave lasting burns upon the opponent.
- Burning Meteor: This attack is prefaced by a high-speed charge, followed by Sera encasing one of her legs with all five of her wings. She then ignites her legs with holy flames before doing a jump kick at her opponent. This attack was powerful enough to carve a trench through an armoured target and the force from the kick cratering the ground behind him. It was first used against Sir Clarent.
- Burning Shower: A ranged technique, this attack is started by the forming of a small sphere of flames from one of her wingtips. Growing the sphere by pouring more and more flames from her being, she lights up the area by creating a virtual sun made of holy fire. While it is assumed she can fire this in all directions, in her battle with Douglas Drax she then proceeded to burst the sphere upon her back, attempting to incinerate her opponent while remaining unharmed due to her flame's properties.
- Burning Shortsword: A rapid-striking punch, this technique is set up by getting close to an opponent before striking them with a powerful straight. It appears as a straight upgrade to the Downy Shortsword technique. It was powerful enough to almost cause Ogre to expel his stomach's contents while also leaving a hefty burn to his side despite his efforts to tighten up his muscles to resist it.
- Burning Blunderbuss: By creating a ball of fire in one of her hands before clapping them together, Sera has shown to be able to make a shotgun burst of flames to pepper the area in front of her. Not intended to cause significant damage, this technique mostly seems to be used to distract an opponent as she creates distance.
- Burning Labrys: An almost upgrade to the Downy Bardiche technique, this one takes it much farther by having Sera display her speed in a rapid series of dashes between panes of light, each dash having the force to shatter these constructs with her leap away. And several dozen of these to increase her power to its fullest, Sera hits a pane above before launching herself down to an opponent with enough Force that Ogre was concerned that it would take his head off completely if unguarded, forcing him to cancel it out with Big Aegis, albeit she still caused significant damage to the arm before it regenerated.
- Burning Pickaxe: A technique Sera used as an immediate follow up to Burning Labrys, this attack involves Sera charging into her opponent before sliding low to strike at their ankles in an attempt to bring her foe to the ground and potentially break their legs. Its effectiveness is unknown as Ogre interrupted it.
Golden Series
The Golden Series of techniques revolves around the compression of Sera's flames into golden light. By cladding herself in her light, Sera enhances her power by using the light to add an extra instance of force to her movements by pushing outwards when she leaps forward and when she strikes her foe. Less commonly seen than the Burning Series of techniques, she has so far only revealed two techniques from this series.
- Golden Strike: An attack that involves Sera launching a projectile at her opponent, this is initiated by Sera infusing an object with her light to increase its durability before launching it with extreme force at her opponent with a powerful kick. Despite this Ogre was able to destroy the projectile with a single punch, only suffering some burning in the process.
- Golden Cannon - Advancing Amaryllis: In flower language, Advancing Amaryllis would mean Advancing Pride.
- Golden Cannon - Dancing Iris:By compressing light along her feet while also wrapping her wings in them, Sera shifts a majority of her potential physical enhancements to her legs. Striking forward while using this newly enhanced leg strength, she dances across the battlefield so fast that the only indication most people have of her passing is that of a streak of light. Striking at the edge of her opponent again and again, this attack functions by striking an opponent dozens or even hundreds of times before they can successfully react, and even once they do they will usually find themselves unable to keep up with Sera's movements, allowing her to attempt to fell them with a thousand cuts instead of one big attack. This attack injured Ogre upon debut, but he was durable enough that he was eventually able to get used to the speed before catching Sera to end the technique. In flower language, Dancing Iris would mean Dancing Eloquence.
- Golden Cannon - Endless Edelweiss: In flower language, Endless Edelweiss would mean Endless Courage.
- Golden Cannon - Soaring Snapdragon: In flower language, Soaring Snapdragon would mean Soaring Strength.
- Golden Cannon - Wilted Rose: In flower language, Wilted Rose would mean Wilted Sorrow.
Martina's Techniques[]
While operating under the alias of Maximilian Martina, Sera showed a significantly different usage of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model Angel. Utilizing a sword in addition to her normal style of fighting, she utilized a much more tricky style of combat than she normally displays. These techniques seem to have a ghostly naming scheme.

Advanced Modes[]
- Shining Knight: (炯然騎士, Keizan Kishi)
- Bright Furnace: Bright Furnance (燦炉, Sanrō) is a technique unleashed by the consumption of the Angel Fruit's flames. By containing and producing them inside of the user's body, they are able to maintain a far greater degree of fire than the user is in their base state. This form is marked by flames roiling out of the user's mouth as they breath, collecting in their hair and wings for a far wilder appearance. The user's halo is also noted to be ignited in this form.

History[]
Prior to the current consumer of the fruit eating it, this fruit was noted to have sat in the Phim Family Orchard for decades, at least as long as Sera's immediate family could remember. It is unknown exactly how long it has been there, or where it was before that. It was first consumed by Sera prior to her first known appearance in 1572 , when she ate it after one of her friends picked it for her.
Trivia[]
- This fruit initially had multiple Zoan transformations based upon how many wings that were manifested, but this idea was scrapped later on.
- The current user of this fruit, Sera refers to this fruit primarily as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Tenshi due to personal preference.
- This fruit and the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Devil are considered counterparts of each other, with their special abilities being inversed compared to the other. The Angel Fruit producing flames that purify, while the Devil Fruit produces flames that corrupt. This was unintentional but just kinda works out.
- Both the Angel and the Devil fruit took 23rd place on the most recent popularity poll, leaving all in balance.
- Though the lowest order of Angels are also referred to as angels, this fruit represents the entire species of angels, ranging from the Generic Messenger Angel all the the way to the Seraphim. Any other angel devil fruit would be by definition a subspecies and therefore weaker than the powers of this Angel fruit.
