JOKER is an article written by EmperorSigma and Berserkchart486.

Joker are Artificial Devil Fruits, manmade fruits designed to give consumers special powers like a natural devil fruits would, specifically of the Paramecia-type. These fruits were originally created by Bryant D. Kobe, an innate scholar from the Cloudia Kingdom, under a different name, but were incomplete failures. However, by employing Benjamin Tabart, and utilizing his botanical expertise, Kobe was finally able to complete the formula and manufacture successful artificial paramecia.

Appearance[]

Production[]

Like other artificial devil fruits, Jokers have a key ingredient that is required for their production: LEAN. Created by Tabart and Kobe, these two are the only ones with the knowledge of how to produce it, and thus, the production is monopolized solely between these two. However, alone, the other is incapable of producing it, as Tabart requires Kobe’s innate scientific expertise to extract the necessary components from SIQ, while Kobe requires Tabart’s ability to manipulate the lineage factor of IQ.

JOKER is manufactured in a single, undisclosed location within Kobe’s territory, Mount Olympus. The facility itself hosts the garden in which the genetically modified IQ is spawned from, the lab in which SIQ is created, its components extracted, and then mixed with the genetically altered IQ to create LEAN, and finally the factory in which the plants are injected with LEAN to create the artificial fruits.

Because the fruits must maturate while the substance is being injected into them, the fruits must be grown in the factory. However, the seeds supplied were created and modified by Tabart, allowing them to grow without any resources, fueled by the mysticism of his Mosa Mosa; these plants are much more receptive to LEAN, while also maturating at a quicker rate. Because these fruits do not rely on sunlight, water, etc., to grow, but mature, they are always “set” to grow at a specific time interval upon their creation, meaning that any delays in any of the processes will result in complete failure.

Attributes[]

JOKER functions by causing humanity to “evolve”, changing their lineage factor so that their body produces a meta-ability, much like paramecia devil fruits do. Because this evolution is simply a mutation, and therefore entirely random, there is no reliable method to predict what the power will be, but because of how the artificial fruits were synthesized, there is almost always a reaction and never few JOKERS are defective. According to Tabart, the fruit will produce someone with superhuman physical abilities, as if they were genetically modified like the Vinsmoke Family, approximately eighty percent of the time. They’ll grow size, akin to gigantification, approximately fifteen percent of the time, and the other five percent will be a true meta-ability, ranging from the power to generate spikes on portions of their body, to generating electricity. In an exceptionally rare case, the consumer could gain all three.

Whereas most paramecia fruits allow the user to use them without any strain on their stamina, such as the generation-type paramecia which can produce their element infinitely, as well as other types such as the Doa Doa no Mi, JOKER’s abilities are physical abilities manifested in a person, and are not granted these similar things. For one to replicate the power of these latent devil fruits would require them to exhaust a resource within their body, meaning that every power has an innate physical drawback that is made active when their artificial powers are in use.

From testing, there are three type of artificial powers that can be generated from the mutation aside from the enhanced physical prowess and size, and they have been categorized accordingly: active, composite, and heteromorphic.

Types of JOKER fruits[]

  • Active evolutions are ones that require the user to consciously maintain activate their new mutations, and these powers often usually revolve around generating and controlling things or altering existing things around them. Unlike a normal paramecia which makes the user immune to their own powers, as is the case with fire paramecia, because JOKER induces a specific mutation rather than altering the lineage factor in the same manner a devil fruit does, the consumer’s body is not immune to their emitted powers, and therefore they can be harmed. While they do tend to have ways to deal with their new mutations, there will always be consequences for the overuse, as many of these powers that allow them to generate these powers come from reserves within their own body, such as the transformation of lipids, burning of glucose, etc., These evolutions tend to be the most common of the true meta-ability, occurring approximately ninety percent of the time.
  • Composite evolutions are powers that transform the user’s body in some way, much like the Supe Supe no Mi, or the Mochi Mochi no Mi. Though these powers require the user to consciously activate them, they tend to remain active until deactivated, and most can reflexively activate them. These evolutions are the rarest and occur three percent of the time, meaning they are generally not seen. Among the different meta-abilities granted by JOKER, composite types tend to produce some of the strongest evolutionary powers, but these abilities are often temporary at best. Activation of these powers tend to require a specific resource, such as if the Supe were to be replicated, the user would need to have certain levels of iron, and without them they would suffer from iron fatigue, and be unable to maintain the transformation.
  • Heteromorphic evolutions are the second most common type of mutations, occurring seven percent of the time, and requires no conscious thought from the user because these evolutions permanently alter the consumer’s body. These mutations often add appendages to the body, or other features, that allow the user to access abilities that they would normally not have, much like the Gomu Gomu no Mi, or the Shiro Shiro no Mi, both which transform the user’s body into rubber or turns them into a living fortress. Heteromorphic evolutions, usually, do not allow the consumer to generate anything, and tends to be limited to bodily alterations, such as additional arms, legs, tails, or weapons manifesting on their body. There are exceptions to this rule, as someone did once manifest a venomous sac, but they were unable to control the poison as an active evolution would be able to do, and were restricted to transmitting it through a bite, or through their fingernails. The passive nature of these mutations makes it so they have the least disadvantages from use but will often always have weaknesses that can be exposed constantly due. Additionally, Heteromorphic mutations often horribly mutates a person, making It so they are disfigured or grotesque.
