Nama Nama no Mi is an article written by PuddingCups.

The Nama Nama no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to manifest and control names. The user, becoming a Naming Human (呼称人間, Koshō Ningen?), can steal the names of other beings and take it for themself or bestow it upon another person or object.

It was eaten by Kyteler Crickett.

Etymology[]

  • "Nama" is short for Namae (名前?), the Japanese word for "name".
  • It is translated as the Name-Name Fruit.

Strengths and Weaknesses[]

Strengths[]

The first and foremost strength of the fruit, as demonstrated by Crickett, is that its user can manifest and draw out the names of people and things provided their will has been broken. The manifested names take on the appearance of an inky-spectral looking liquid which transfer from the victim and onto Crickett's body in the form of a tattoo. This effectively turns the victims into amnesiacs or zombies with no recollection of their former life or identity which makes them unrecognizable to those they used to know. This is best showcased by the eighty eight victims who still remain in Stella Gaz's Milky Way, a ghost town described as frozen in time by Felis due to the aftermaths of Crickett's fruit on its residents.

While any learned or inherited abilities travel alongside the name, such as fighting styles or poneglyph reading, racial attributes such as a Fish-Mens connection to water or abilities gained via outside sources like Devil Fruit powers, do not.

Well technically alive, implies the existence of a soul, free will, and the ability to enjoy ice cream. I would just call this animated.

—Crickett's comment on her fruits abilities.

A name can be given to anyone or anything. If someone or something already has a name and is given another, they retain their own identity while being able to channel the given names memories, personality, and power. It is for this reason that Crickett keeps many names on her person and does not like to give them away. This was showcased in Crickett's fight with Onnarashii wherein she channeled the name of a kung-fu master in order to fight off the kraken. [1]

When given to an inanimate object, the object can take on specific traits of the name. A sword given a human name would not be able to speak, but if the name belonged to a remarkable swordsman, it would be a better sword. Crickett used this technique to "curse" Hornigold Clovis by giving his sword the name of a person with infamously bad luck. She also gave the name of her former pet tanuki to a massive fire within a village on Cleft Island, effectively taming the flame (which refused to burn her due to the Tanuki's overprotective nature) and later using it to incinerate Vander Decken XIV.[1]

Weaknesses[]

The person who created the name, or in other words the person who named them at birth, is capable of giving a victim their name back (most often their mother or father).[1] This was first showcased in Crickett's fight with Vander Decken XIV. Due to Deckens Voice of All Things, he is always hearing his mothers voice.[1] Because of this, when Crickett attempted to steal his name, the attack backfired and Crickett was hurt in the process.

Other than that, the user is affected by the standard Devil Fruit weaknesses.

Usage[]

Techniques[]

CrickettReleasingNames

Crickett uses "Black Christening."

  • Black Christening (お誕生日おめでとう, (ブラッククリステニング) Burakku Kurisuteningu?, literally meaning "Happy Birthday"): A technique first used by Crickett after a battle with Vander Decken XIV. It is the process of giving a name to something or someone else. She was seen using it to tame a fire which threatened a village on Skull Island, naming it "Procyon" (プロキオン, Purokion).[1]
  • Swindler's List (詐欺師のリスト, Sagishi no Risuto): This ability allows Crickett to show off the names she has collected. Extending her arms outward, the tattooed names on her body peel off and droop from her arms in two long lists. She often using this move in hopes of selling one of her less useful names to an unsuspecting customer; as seen with Blackwater Betty.[1]

This resembles a coat full of contraband.

Name-Based Techniques[]

Procyon[]

Procyon using ignite on Vander Decken XIV.
  • Guard (赤熱衛, (ガード) Gādo, literally meaning "Red-Hot Defense"): Crickett commands Procyon to protect her by burning away incoming attacks. He is capable of forming a wall, a sphere, a spiral, or any shape necessary in order to complete the task. This was used to defend her against Decken's dangerous dart game in Blackwater Bay.
  • Ignite (燃立つ, (イグナイト) Igunaito, literally meaning "Blaze Up"): Following Crickett's command, Procyon lights up an enemy and sets them ablaze. It can be turned off and on or up and down, akin to a lighter or a grill. This was used in order to torture information out of Decken. While it ultimately failed, it still proved powerful enough to cause him a large amount of pain.

Scarabaeus[]

  • Tiger Fist (タイガーフィスト, Taigāfisuto): Having channeled the name Scarabaeus, Crickett makes her hand imitate a tigers paw (very similar to the ones used in Chinese martial arts). This can be used to tear at an enemy, resembling the actual animals power and strength. It was first used in Crickett's battle with Onnarashii.
  • Butterfly Kick (バタフライキック, Batafuraikikku):
