The Manual of Style is the official guideline and standard for writing, formatting, and designing articles on the One-Piece Fandom.  The purpose of this is to make fandom easier to use and more intuitive by promoting clarity and cohesion by establishing precise and unform language, layout, and formatting. All factors comprising our Manual of Style are established for the benefit of all active members and future members.

There are five major categories that formulate the collective manual: Writing Style, Formatting, Image Policy, Category Guidelines, and Content Control.

Writing Style

We do not expect everyone to adhere to the same style of writing. We are authors, first and foremost, and therefore we expect to see instances of literary creativity. However, there are a few rules that must be implemented to ensure that everyone is adhering to policy.

1). English Policy—We are an English fandom, meaning that almost everything here should be written in American English. This is not to suggest that you absolutely cannot use other languages here—if a character in your story speaks a foreign language, i.e German, then it is okay for them to speak it in a roleplay. But, the article name, the roleplay name, as well as the content of the character’s article must be filled out in American English, otherwise no one will be able to understand it. There are additional instances where we do not translate things into English.

  • Character Names—The only character names that we will ask you to translate are those that directly correspond to an American word. For example, Kyarotto is Japanese for Carrot. Your character name would not be Kyarotto, but instead it would be Carrot. However, someone’s name, such as Tashigi, would remain Tashigi because it does not directly translate into English.
  • Devil Fruit Names—These are always in Japanese. We will never translate devil fruit names into English. There are no exceptions to this. Additionally, devil fruit names must be exactly two syllables. No more, no less. Again, there are no exceptions to this rule.
  • Fighting Style Names—Fighting Styles come from a variety of languages in the actual one-piece manga, and therefore we do not request that they be in English.
  • Island and Ship Names—Much like Fighting Styles, islands and ship names can also vary.

2). Obscenities—We are professional. Do not use obscenities in articles. Having characters yell “Fuck!” or “Damn!” are perfectly acceptable because they help with characterization, but do not use obscenities in an article that is not a roleplay unless it is a quote of a phrase that a character has used. For example, you cannot write in your character’s personality section, “X acts like a little bitch.” Instead, you would have to write, “X has the demeanor of a crybaby.” Be smart about this.

3). Technical Jargon and Slang—In the same vein, do not use slang on articles, or excessive technical jargon. Instead of writing, “X had to take a leak,” write, “X had to urinate”, and instead of writing, “X suffers from cephalgia”, write, “X had a headache.” The simpler the better. Of course, if you’re writing as a doctor in a roleplay, you may use whatever medical jargon you wish, and the same goes if you are writing as a character that uses slang. Again, these are solely applicable to non-roleplay-based articles.

4). In-Universe Writing—This is a One-Piece Roleplay Universe, and therefore all articles will be written about as if they exist. To clarify, if we are writing about one of our characters, we would not write, “X is a character created by the admins of One-Piece Roleplaying Universe”, but instead, “X is the first mate of the XXXX pirates.” All articles should be written as if they are describing actual events. References are included in this as well.

5). Quality over Quantity—Summarize to the best of your ability; there is no reason to invest a paragraph into something that can be explained in a single sentence. Doing so will only make it much more time consuming for a user to extract information from your work, which, probably, will discourage them reading anymore. If you want you work read, be precise, and write it well.

Article Pages

Pages of the character, tool, and location categories, respectively, fall under this classification.

Formatting

  • The font on all articles across the wikia should be kept at the default setting; font should not be altered in any form, including size, color, or style. A change in font may potentially be hard on the eyes and disrupt a user from reading comfortably.
  • Customized templates may not be employed on this site. This includes infoboxes and property tags.

Writing Style

  • Avoid making ambiguous assertions such as "Luffy is incredibly powerful" or "Zoro is very strong", as such statements may appear highly contradictory depending on the scope they are presented upon. Instead, offer thorough support to back up such claims; in example, instead of vaguely stating Zoro is "strong", list an example of when his strength is explicitly demonstrated (Zoro is strong enough to lift an entire house over his head with nothing more than his own two hands).

Image Policy

  • Regarding images, this wiki adheres to the standard policy as dictated by the Community Fandom Guidelines which entails the following: do not post porn, shock images, or other disturbing content.
    • Pornographic content, as defined by the Cornell Institute of Law, is defined as: "material that depicts nudity or sexual acts for the purpose of sexual stimulation. However, the presence of nudity or sexual acts in piece of media does not necessarily make that media pornographic if the purpose of that media form is something other than sexual stimulation".[1]
    • Because our wiki is based on a manga published by Shonen Jump, specifically the series One Piece, the restrictions and limitations of our image policy are dictated by the aforementioned corporations. This is in accordance with Community Central Guidelines which reasons: "Artistic nudity may be allowed - for example a classical painting, or a small amount of non-erotic nudity from a game screenshot. Medical or educational wikis may also have some nudity. But that nudity should not be the focus of the wiki, nor should it be excessively explicit." For example, Wikis based on other manga such as the High School of the Dead wiki are shown to contain images that may be considered as "nudity" or "oversexualization", however because they are within the limitations of the series, as well as the fact that manga and Japanese culture have a different threshold for what is considered sexualization, it is still very much in accordance with the Community Central Guidelines. As such, it should be noted that oversexualization, whether of a male or female character, is considered typical for a manga, and the showing of excessive skin is not considered nudity. However, explicitly showcasing physical parts that should be censored, such as the nipples in a provocative or sexually-stimulating fashion (whether male or female), genitalia, or sexual intimacy between characters is strictly prohibited and will result in the image being removed.
    • In short, if it's allowed by Oda, is seen within the series OR on the Mother Wiki, it's also allowed here. Examples from the One Piece series will be provided below to serve as visual justifications for what is permitted on the wiki:

Content Control

Pages that do not adhere to the following rules will be marked with a template telling the offender to reference the Manual of Style.

  • At bare minimum, any article created on the wiki should include an infobox (if appropriate) and an introduction. Pages that are meant to be short, such as a page on a berry or a "side-character" do not require additional sections to be made.
  • An article cannot be marked for deletion for any of the following reasons: minor grammatical errors, missing a single section, for not containing an image.
  • A new article may not be marked until 24 hours have passed since its creation.
