Phoenix is an article written by BQD.

"God Slayer" Phoenix [1] is a commander of the Revolutionary Army, leading over the New Liberation Army specifically as its General (司令官 Shireikan?). Phoenix leads the militia unit in hopes of overthrowing the World Government.

Born as Yang Koi, a member of the Shandia, Phoenix spent part of her childhood as a slave in Yamato. Upon escaping, she became the leader of her tribe and eventually the commanding officer of the God's Guard, where she participated in wars against neighboring sky countries.[1] At some point, inspired by her ancestors and other slaves, Phoenix kickstarted a revolution against God along with fellow God's Guard Gonbei in order to ensure equality and freedom of her race. Though successful, Phoenix ended up in Earth after the war and has since then sought to spread the ideals of freedom across the world.

Phoenix is one of the most dangerous criminals and threat to the World Government due to introducing the beliefs of the Revolutionary Army back after its destruction. She has brought the army's ideals back into prominence, inspiring the likes of Ogre and Draco D. Zephyr to begin their revolutionary careers. She has additionally continually opposed World Nobles, CP-0 and even the Shichibukai along with consuming the Magu Magu no Mi.

Appearance[]

Phoenix exudes an aura of confidence, regardless of where she finds herself. A smirk, covered by dark-colored lip gloss can usually be seen in her lips. Despite standing at seven feet,[2] Phoenix has no qualms about her height, rather, she accepts this fact proudly as noted by her straight posture and composed demeanor.

As a Shandia, Phoenix sports a pair of small wings on her back. While hard to note, their shape is defined and carries more feathers than a Skypiean.[3] Across her right eye, she has a dark tattoo, a common trait across her tribe. Her body is slender yet curvaceous, denoting her femininity. Phoenix possesses surprisingly long limbs, as well as musculature in her arms, legs and a well-defined core, akin to a trained athlete.

Often opting to wear light make-up, Phoenix’s features are still quite visible. Most prominently, she possesses complete heterochromia in the form of multicolored eyes, with one being red and the other green. She has a thin, defined nose and lips as well as a relatively squared jawline. Her eyebrows are also incredibly thin and her eyelashes are prominent. Phoenix also possesses lightly tanned skin, and long bleached white hair that fades into aqua green, and then blue as it goes further down. Her bangs are rectangular, and parted at each side of her face, with two long, somewhat curled strands of hair accompanying them. Her hair is usually tied in a ponytail, as its length reaches her lower back.

In terms of attire, Phoenix possesses no trademark look like other people. As a person with an ornate sense of fashion, her attires mostly differ based on where she finds herself, though she always seems to keep up with the latest trends. She seems to wear striking colors and most often than not heels for footwear. She always wears a pair of golden hoop earrings, and occasionally a pair of tinted sunglasses.

In the Dropping Apples Arc, Phoenix wears a light purple blouse under black suspenders that are attached to a goth-like skirt with metallic accessories and a chain. Her skirt also possesses a pocket and a belt. Underneath she wears black stockings that cover the entirety of her legs as well as black heels.[5]

As of 1580 Phoenix stopped bleaching her hair allowing it's true Crimson color to once again dominate her head.

Personality[]

Born from a long line of Shandia warriors, Phoenix is, above all, characterized by her devotion to her cause. She is incredibly loyal and steadfast to her beliefs to the point where she’s willing to do anything to uphold them. Rather than giving in to Tabart’s offer to disband her army, and live the rest of her days peacefully, Phoenix outright refused the Shichibukai despite his status as a World Noble.

By this same logic, Phoenix is also incredibly caring and faithful to her allies. Sometimes, she even appears to possess a motherly disposition, often taking responsibility for even the most minor of things. When arriving upon Tashoya and hearing Zephyr’s stomach grumble, Phoenix apologized for the lack of food back at their base. This desire to bear the responsibility, and help those she considers friends comes from her many positions as a leader, initially as a member of her tribe, then as captain of the God’s Guard and finally as the leader of the New Liberation Army. Due to being at the fore point, Phoenix has developed an instinctive desire to procure the well-being of her loved ones.

As a person that hails from the sky, Phoenix is naive when it comes to certain issues of the world. She appears to be somewhat forgetful, as shown when Zephyr and her forgot the meeting point at Nassau for an Underworld dealing, or when she nonchalantly approached Tabart, accidentally addressing him as Albert. Beyond knowing about slavery, and the inequality presented by Celestial Dragons, she barely pays attention to rising Pirates, Shichibukai and even the Yonko.

Despite openly opposing the reign of the World Nobles over other people, whether because of her naivety or simply her morals of equality, Phoenix refuses to judge a person by their status, or supposed rumors. As someone that has suffered because of them Phoenix will only judge a person upon directly interacting with them. To those she dislikes, Phoenix can be incredibly blunt and even rude. She has no qualms with insulting a King of a nation or a diplomat, even if it doesn’t end up benefitting her.

These are the reasons why Phoenix is also fearless. She has no qualms with facing any opponent, no matter their strength. This lack of fear isn’t based on optimism but rather on the opposite. Phoenix is a realist, she accepts that not everyone can be saved through sheer effort, and as a revolutionary, she understands that anything can happen. This is why she also understands that because she’s a revolutionary, the world may come to publicly hate her. While she dislikes this, as an idealist, she believes that her dreams reign over how others perceive her.

Draco D. Zephyr[]

The first person Phoenix met on the Blue Sea, Phoenix sees Zephyr as someone with incredible potential. Despite coming from different places, they both believe that the world deserves to be freed from the grasp of the World Government, and that only one’s will could pave their future, rather than predetermined destiny.[6] Phoenix respects Zephyr as both a person and a combatant, a feeling that is mutual between the two.

Their closeness denotes an almost familiar relationship, akin to siblings. Even during combat, the duo can work with incredible synergy even when encountering multiple opponents.[7] They also possess several similarities, in their nonchalant ways, and naivety over certain figures in the world. She also seems to be protective of Zephyr, as shown by her anger at Tabart’s claim that he’d try to shatter Zephyr.[6]

Benjamin Tabart[]

Tabart: I’ll give you another opportunity to step down, Phoenix. Disband your army and live peacefully. I can already confirm that if you don’t, then you will die here, by my hand, for that too was predestined by your genes.

Phoenix: Fuck off.

—Phoenix and Tabart during Dropping Apples[6]

Although they’ve only met once, Phoenix and Tabart's relation is one predetermined by their roots. As a Revolutionary, Phoenix opposes the government openly and thus Tabart’s duty is to antagonizes her. Moreover, her relationship with Zephyr, whom Tabart sees as a potential rival, makes him all the more an enemy to Phoenix. Upon their initial meeting, Tabart even went as far as to claim he’d kill Phoenix just to break Zephyr.[6]

Outside of their roles, Tabart, like most people she met, she was unaware of his status. Despite this Phoenix didn’t prejudice him due to being a World Noble or a Shichibukai. It was only after talking to him that Phoenix begun to see him as overly confident, delusional even, disagreeing with his belief that their success was predetermined due to their genes. Regardless, during combat, Phoenix sees Tabart as a smart, even ingenious man, believing that it was only due to him that Lester and Zy could contest their clones.

Overall, Phoenix dislikes Tabart, not due to his affiliation but the warped beliefs he presented to her, and likewise, Tabart sees her as an obstacle he must overcome.

Devil Fruit[]

Further information: Magu Magu no Mi

Phoenix is the current user of the Magu Magu no Mi, a Logia-class Devil Fruit that grants her the ability to transform as well as generate near endless amounts of magma to manipulate as she pleases. Revered for its outstanding power and potency, even moreso than other Devil Fruits of its class, Phoenix instantly became one of the most destructive individuals in the world, simply due to the virtue of the fruit she consumed.

Like most Logia users, Phoenix can morph herself into magma to phase through any attacks that are not enhanced by the powers of Haki. This application is a rare one for Phoenix, as most of her enemies in the New World possess the ability to manifest their will unto physical form. Additionally, most of her opponents refuse to outright approach her due to the dangers that approaching the Magu pose.

Like most users of the Magu, Phoenix opts to utilize its sheer offensive potential to overwhelm her opponents physically. While she isn’t necessarily the strongest, Phoenix can often match if not outright overpower other opponents through both the flammability and explosiveness of the Magu. She tends to enhance her limbs with the element to severely enhance the size of her blows. Her most common method of doing this is in the form of palm strikes, or any movements reminiscent of her Haoshima Kenpo. It should be noted that a single hit from Phoenix is enough to completely destroy most things. As the elemental power of Logia Devil Fruits are rarely progressive, and unchanging between users, Phoenix’s fruit allows her to vaporize mass amounts of ice instantly, completely scorch whatever battlefield she’s in, and violently fragment into igneous rock. The heat of the Magu is so immense that even Lester, the owner of the Resu Resu no Mi had to resort to coating his entire body with Busoshoku in order to lessen its temperature, and still left him suffering with burns.[8]

Phoenix also tends to expand her limbs with magma upon close-range, utilizing it as a way to prevent her opponents from reacting. As she utilizes the fruit as an extension of her physicality, she can even create feathers of lava by coating her wings with it, offering her range in combat.

While using the fruit to shatter her opponents physically is its most simple applications, Phoenix resorts to more subtle uses of the fruit as well. She tends to tether herself to the earth through her powers, as volcanic activity is the root of any island. By doing this, Phoenix can then create fissures and eruptions on the Earth in order to assist her during combat. She can use these in order to aid her maneuverability by secreting hot air, or outright shoot plumes of lava into the world. Additionally, she can disrupt her opponent’s movements by causing the fissure to expand. By creating various craters, Phoenix can slowly gain control of the battlefield without her opponents so much as realizing it.

Quotes[]

Albert. I have a question. Several, actually. But the most important is...Can you please tell those World Government guys or whatever to step down?

—Phoenix to Benjamin Tabart in Dropping Apples.

You know, not too long ago, my homeland was ruled by a self-proclaimed 'God' too. I thought he'd lead us to paradise, at least for a while. But all he did, was lead us astray, just like you and those other numbnuts.
