Project Animalia is a marine scientist initiative to mass-produce Zoan-type Devil Fruits using Dr. Vegapunk's original formula, increasing the power of their rank-and-file members. This project was under the supervision of Vice Admiral Umiyuri with Ais Eis Bebe working as a contractor and scientific head.
Overview[]
Due to the understaffing present within the marine infrastructure, many were looking for a way to increase the number of soldiers. Umiyuri, due to her own interest in Zoan Devil Fruits, decided to instead focus on improving the quality of the soldiers they already had. With the project working out of Punk Hazard, Umiyuri worked alongside the island's base commander, Vice Admiral Zacharius, and recruited Ais Eis Bebe to work as the project's head scientist due to her expertise in chemistry and Devil Fruit research.[1]
Project Animalia is intended to create a surplus of Zoan-type Devil Fruits to deliver to soldiers and officers at request. In addition to providing the fruit, Punk Hazard also boasts facilities for training newer Fruit users in how to use their abilities, either by having the original user of the fruit teach a course, or having someone with a similar ability or better teaching skills if the original fruit's user is for some reason unavailable.[1] They possess a wide variety of fruits, receiving donors from marine officers, government officials, prisoners, and bounty hunters, including the following:

In addition to possessing the facilities for creating and training Zoan Devil Fruit users, they also possess a unit for hunting them. This is to prevent or lower the chance of desertion for anyone who only joined the marines to get their hands on a Devil Fruit. This division is led by Vice Admirals Zacharius and Tsurugi, using anti-Devil Fruit user research provided by Vice Admiral Proto Zoa.[1]

The project was created prior to the year 1589, with Vice Admiral Umiyuri specifically requesting it and finding the project approved. After relocating to Punk Hazard, she recruited Ais Eis Bebe of Blizzard Inc. to work as the lead scientist, due to the fact that none of the marine scientists had the expertise necessary to work on the project. During this time, they were able to create 50 artificial Devil Fruit users with no side effects, with 250 extra fruits ready for shipment, as well as creating a task force for capturing any deserters. This project was considered top secret during this time frame.[1]
As they prepared for rollout, Umiyuri requested vice admirals Tsurugi and Marduk come to Punk Hazard to inspect the project, with the express interest of all recruiting them as trainers and hunters for their endeavors. The marines were quite impressed and agreed.[1]

- Anyone can request to have their Zoan Devil Fruit added to the list of fruits for Project Animalia.
- Fruits on the list can be used for a character without asking permission first, as long as that character is a marine officer. However, the original fruit's user should still be notified.
- Fruits with an asterisk (*) by them are canonically fruits available in Project Animalia, but require the original user's permission first before they can be used for a marine officer.
