Rank your chars, or some of your most notable ones from good to evil. Plus points if you give a short explaination as to why.
Going to fully elaborate on how I place every character on my wiki would go very much into spoiler territories, so some elements that makes them who they are would be left purposefully undisclosed for spoiler reasons.
Also, I am going to showcase only characters that have appeared in Rps which are not entirely minor (so guys/girls like Estar or Judy are out for the time being). In some cases, the reveal about a character alignment would be too spoiler heavy, so I would left them out in their entirety.
In essence, from “Most Good to Most Evil”:
Longinus Adelia: barring her angry side, which she only shows in front of genuine evil or if her loved ones are hurt, Adelia might be one of the kindest, most lovable souls that you could ever hope to meet. She loves animals of all size and shapes, dotes on children greatly, and will do anything to make her kingdom a happier and safer place. If life went according to her wishes, she might very well pass out as a saint, since there are few things that fill her with more joy than helping others.
Diana Wilhelmina: another character who is guided by strong moral principles, she holds immense loyalty and care for both to her country men and the people under Legs’ rule and who would never inflict harm on people more than it is necessary. That said, she knows life and realpolitik to know that sometimes she needs to use underhanded tactics for the greater good; if playing dirty is required, Minnie will scheme her way to victory with no hesitation. You can also say that being an enforcer of a Yonko (even if is her role is about being a bodyguard more than anything less) inevitably puts her in a position where she must compromise, but she strives to do the right thing as much as she can regardless.
Marishi Sol: Under most circumstances, she would is good candidate for the first spot in “Most Good” for plenty of reasons. If you are a civilian or a comrade, she would be unfailingly kind, motherly and nurturing to point of eagerly risking her life for her duty and the safety of others. However, due to the abuse she suffered by the hands of the Cypher Pirates, she utterly despises criminals of almost kind (children are the only exception) and will not hesitate to use every drop of her plasma to wipe them out of existence. Even so, Sol is not a sadist, and can under certain circumstances (very rare) convinced to spare the lives of outlaws, particularly if they are eager to redeem themselves.
Deanna / Jones S. Ban: those two are interchangeable, as they both share the same outlook on life and ethics. They can be described as good-hearted hedonists: mostly looking after themselves and not being concerned with lofty ideals or altruistic causes, but, when push comes to shove, you can count on them for doing the right thing. They also hold a strong degree of devotion to their friends and the people that care about them, being willing to go to any length to help them.
Vánagandr: another big surprise, but “Robo-Man” is far more noble and compassionate than he appears to be at a first glance. Sure, he is a brutal disciplinarian in the ass when it comes to training students, but he does that because he cares about their well beings. Most of his eviler actions are a result of Weil’s machinations; as far as he goes, he would not partake to any atrocity. That said, Van has got a very nasty temper and an absolute hatred for the real evil fellows: if you happen to piss him off while acting like a douche, he will thoroughly enjoy himself sending you to the Creator.
Raidne: I was on the fence on whether putting her above or below Van, as they are more less or less equal, if for opposite reasons. Much like her mother and sisters, Raidne is a consummate warrior and raider with her fair share of blood in her hands. However, unlike her family, she is as a compassionate woman as much as her profession would allow, mostly avoiding hurting people when it is not necessary; many times she has used her influence over Aretha to have her spare people from her wrath. The reason she sticks around with her family is mostly due to gratitude, as Aretha and the Sirens saved her from being a slave. Also, unlike Aretha, she is popular in Bohemia for genuine reasons (aka, she is a talented singer, for a change), and does all that she can to please her fans.
Durga: the epitome of a misguided idealist, Durga is a fierce and ruthless executive of the Iron Legion who has and can commit heinous act to make their vision of a perfect world realized. However, that is only so far that her evil tendencies go: outside of her job and life mission, Durga can be genuinely caring and devoted to her friends and does not like committing unnecessary cruelties at all. Furthermore, she is a complete cinnamon bun whenever she interacts with cute and harmless things. If she were convinced that the utopia promised by Weil is not worth the sacrifices, Durga will most likely climb to the higher spots of the list.
Bonaparte D. Josephine: this and the two positions below are the trickier to discern, as you can say that they all fit the mold of mostly “pure neutral”. As for Josephine, she just likes to do whatever she likes without caring about the consequences. If you are nice to her, she will be nice to you; if you are mean to her, she will most likely destroy you. If she likes something, she will bother to ask people to give her once, then rob them blind if they do not comply. She will not use her strength to bully over the weak and the defenseless but will not cry over too much if there are some casualties involved, especially if they did not have the common sense to run away in the first place. Her placement might go lower and higher depending on further Rp developments.
All Chiba Clan Members: yep, I have put all of them in the same batch, as they are all share the same ethical tenet: family comes first. Is not like they cannot have empathy for outsiders, but their loyalties to their way of living means they will be eager to kill plenty of people if it mean that the Clan with thrive, though it won’t mean they are excessive about their bloody ways. If I have to rank the Chiba individually, though, it would be Asuka (the most affectionate and cheerful) >Hinata (currently the most benevolent, but still scheming and cruel when needed to be) >Benkei (hotheaded and rude, but can be caring when needed) >Zakihan (the most bitter and ruthless).
The rest of the Siren Four: same as the Chiba: love each other plenty, will not bat an eyelash at murdering outsiders. Still, they have inherited Aretha’s spoiled tendencies, if to a far lesser degree than their mother, so I would say they might rank a bit lower than the ninjas.
Ulquiorra Cynthia: Cynthia’s moral compass works like her logic: a mess of weirdness wrapped in a blanket of insanity bouncing between hamsters spinning on wheels while hearing the “beast of” playlists of Shakira, Bach, George Gershwin, Justine Bieber, a choir of drunken seagulls, and an even more drunk Italo-Novergian accordion player suffering of meteorism. All at once. Backwards. It is not that she has no moral compass, but whenever code she follows comes off as completely incomprehensible to mortal minds, a bundle of contradictions that somehow follows a weird semblance of cogency. The only rational thing we can infer from Cynthia’s action is that is a ruthless hitman that mostly carries out her duties rather mercilessly, so she cannot be a very nice person overall.
William B. Eastwood: at a first glance, you may think of him as a courteous and nice chap, a jolly ol’ cowboy who mostly likes to sing and mind in his own business. However, this gunslinger has got some of itchiest fingers in the ol’ Wild West, and all reports regarding those dumb fools who dared mocking his voice, cheating at poker or disrespecting him in general are filled to the brim with shocking brutality, riddled corpses and fingers pouring down from hands like grotesque rains of human flesh. Still, Eastwood is relatively reasonable when in good mood, and does a code of honor he follows truth, such as never getting back on his word no matter the circumstances.
Hikaru Aretha: most of the time, Aretha is very unpleasant and rotten person: she is spoiled, ill-tempered, won’t hesitate to murder and pillage to satisfy her greed, and has people enduring her god-awful singing under death threat in order to satisfy her vanity. That said, Aretha is not without a fair share of redeeming qualities. Those being: 1) she loves her daughters very deeply, so much so that she is willing to put their well-being even above her humongous ego; 2) she is fairly competent administrator of Bohemia whenever she is not acting like a bitchy diva (which doesn’t happen very much, admittedly); 3) Aretha is genuinely fond of children, and won’t kill them or cripple them even if they mock her singing. She will occasionally beat them brown and blue, of course, but in her mind, those are “correctional” beatings, not acts of willful cruelty.
Gratzianowi Serena: crazy, nasty, sadistic. Those are adjectives suit Serena very well, being an unrepentant cannibal with a love to draw out her victim’s torment as much as possible, both on a physical and mental level. That said, much like Aretha, Serena is a family woman, loving her parents very much, and takes her position as a Marine as diligently as her monstrous tendencies allows her to do. Her training sessions with Bambina had instilled her some camaraderie, as well as saddled down her edges… somewhat. Still, unless you are a civilian with a spotless criminal record, you are advised to never meet her on a dark corner. Especially not during lunch time.
Mortarion Vrag: redeeming qualities are becoming scarcer and scarcer; Vrag has got almost none of them. The right hand of dr. Weil is a grim, utterly ruthless enforcer who has no qualms about getting his hands dirty, even to the point of committing a mass murder or two, has almost no concept of empathy and/or mercy, caring little more about his comrades that he does about the masses he will command to slaughter or to commit experiments upon. To top it off, his personality is abrasive and sardonic as his position and epithet would imply. Still, there is spoiler factor that objectively makes much more to condemn him for his moral deficiencies.
Simon N. Weil: in some ways, Weil is a better than some of those ranked in the higher spots: his goals of a technocratic heaven are noble on paper, and he completely lacks any sadistic tendency per se. What he also lacks is any shred of love for anybody and anyone: for him, the individual is little more than a minor cog of flesh whose entire purpose is to forward the great machine of humanity toward progress. A quintessential “tin-man”, what put him on such a low on this ranking are the horrific lengths he will go for the sake of his utopia, and his wholly nonchalant reaction to any collateral damage outside of practical concerns.
Imagawa Hyoshimaru: as Dante once wrote, the bottom of hell is a domain of ice and grim misery. Hyoshimaru is a callous, treacherous, ruthless, cowardly bully whose only goal in life is to satisfy his lust for revenge while causing as much pain and misery as possible. Any act of friendliness and care he may show to people is little more than a manipulative farce, which he will discard the moment his pawns have outlived their usefulness. Other people found in this list might have something good or at least admirable about their persona; Hyoshimaru is a coldhearted bastard in every meaning of the world.
This how I roughly perceive them to be on a morality spectrum. If any of you evaluate their actions/intent in a different manner, I am open for a discussion.
